Chapter 9 - Having Flashbacks

The next day, Ashton stayed in his dorm. All night he couldn't sleep nor eat. He stayed up flashbacking. "4 months I have left you and I forgot about you in mind but not by heart." Ashton stares at a picture of him with his ex-girlfriend Skylar. A tear rolls down his cheek and falls on the picture "I miss you Skye.." He wipes off his tear "And I am sorry that I left you." he says lowly as he holds the picture close to his chest. He stares at the picture and remembers the day she took the picture.

Both of them are sitting on the sand drinking root beer while relaxing in the sun. "This is nice that you brought me out to the beach" she starts off. He smiles looking at her "Yeah, it's nice to be away from the house." "I want it to always be like this.." she says while grabbing her camera. "Say cheese!" She smiles at the camera while Ashton kisses her cheek and she takes the picture. They both look at it, laugh, and brush their lips against each other.

Maximus comes in the room concerned. "Dude what's wrong? You haven't gone anywhere but stayed here." Ashton stays quiet while staring at the picture. Maximus gets impatient "I ask again, what is wrong?!" "I can't get over her.." Ashton says as he looks up at him. "Can't get over who?" Maximus walks up to him curiously noticing him staring at a picture. "Before I got here, I had to leave the girl of my dreams. It was for the better. She can't know why I left because it was a secret. Only my family knows I was looking for Anamaria, but they don't know where I am. I left her to look for Anamaria and also she's an Eve. Although she's human but her family isn't and that made me uncomfortable. She's my first girlfriend and I had no way of telling her..so then..I left her and..now I am here." Maximus looks at the picture of both of them and Ashton sniffles wiping his tears. Maximus sighs and slightly smiles while he gently places a caring hand on Ashton's shoulder "Women huh?" Ashton chuckles and nods "I guess you can say that." He keeps staring and Maximus breaks in "Is that why you went up to the woman yesterday? Because she looked like her?" "Yeah.." Ashton looks down and sighs missing Skye. "I'm sorry you had to leave her, I know she meant a lot to you." "That's okay because you know why? He puts down the picture. I am glad I left her because then I would still be concerned about Anamaria and after 8 years I finally found her! Family comes first right? Lovers, you just have to let them go even if..it wasn't meant to be.." He slightly smiles after saying that.

"You can always find a bright side even through your worse. You just have to look yourself in the mirror and have courage about yourself. Tell yourself that you are smart, brave, and not going to let anything in your way." Maximus massages his shoulder to help Ashton be confident. "You're right. It's silly to be depressed. I should just be happy that I finally found my sister, she is alive after 8 years, and I won't leave her side. Thanks for worrying Max." "Well that's what friends are for." Maximus pulls in him for a man hug and Ashton slowly hugs him back surprised. After the fights they faced and those times when they have been mad at each other, it was the first time ever they actually hugged. However, it wasn't just a hug to brush off, it was a hug to let each other know everything will be okay because they are here to help each other out.

Both of them pat each other on the back and shrug off. "So are you ready to get your mind off and go eat?" Ashton thinks for a moment and smiles "Yes, yes I am." He smirks and the both of them start walking to the luncheon room. As they walk there, the hallways were kind of quiet. Since it's Saturday, probably most people are going out to the city. Ashton breaks the silence between them "Just by curiosity, what is it about my sister that you like about her?" Ashton looks up at him curious wondering what his response will be. "Well after the first 2 years she started here, I noticed that she wasn't any original girl who only cares about themselves and their powers. She's a girl that opens up her mind, cares about others, and loves having adventures even if she's alone. Your sister is so wonderful and I can't find anyone like her here. She's just amazing." Maximus smiles as he thinks about her.Ashton smirks "You really like her huh?" "Yes! And I don't think that finding another girl even if she's attractive, would ever make me forget about Anamaria. I would do anything in a heart beat to have her in my life and I mean ANYTHING." Regretting to what Ashton might say to Maximus, he thinks Maximus might be a great guy for her. Despise about the rumors he heard around, he feels Maximus would be great for Anamaria. After all, if he hurts his sister, he will pay the price as well. Ashton was ready to face the challenge because even if he fails, he knows he will get up and keep fighting, he knows what to do if he falls. "You're a good guy Max.. Ashton gulps. I think you should try to ask my sister out." Maximus stops walking and goes in front of him confused. "Wait..are you joking or..?" "Not at all! I'm serious! I really think you should try a relationship with my sister." "Are you okay with that? I don't want this to affect you." "Well I am telling this to you so yeah it pretty much means I'm more than okay with it." Maximus gives a light squeeze on his shoulder and pats his back lightly "Thanks Ashton, I won't let you down." "Max I trust you, like I said before, all I worry about is Anamaria's happiness." "I won't hurt her and I promise." Maximus gets happy and smiles. Even though Ashton didn't like this idea, it was a tough decision but if it makes his sister happy then that's all he cares about. If someone breaks her, then he will take care of that. For now, he's just going to enjoy life with his sister being alive.

Anamaria sees him and runs to hug him. "Oh my god! Are you okay?! I heard you've been locked in the room all day." She looks at him worried placing a caring hand on his cheek softening it. "Yes Ana, I am okay. Believe me I am and Max helped me out with that." Max smiles looking at both of them and she smiles back. "Well I'm glad you guys figured out things and bonded." She says happy while relieved. "Yeah but umm..Max can you leave us alone to talk in private? I'll meet you inside.." "Sure thing bro!" He pats his back and goes inside the luncheon room. "What do you need to talk about with me?" Anamaria asks her brother confused but happy. Ashton takes her hand and they sit down on a bench. "Ana, I know how happy Maximus makes you and I talked to him. After despite the argument I got in with him because I cared too much about you, I realized that he's not those type of guys that I see now in society which are those selfish jerks. He really cares about you and so..I decided, you can be with him in any form either it's friends or you want to be more than friends. All I care about is your happiness and I would do anything to let you keep it. Ana, spend time with Maximus but just promise me you will be careful with the things you do." "You really would do that for me?" "Ofcourse, I love you." "And I love you too. Anamaria chuckles and smiles. I promise I will be careful. Thank you so much! This means so much!" "I know." Anamaria smiles and they hug each other meaningful. "Come on, let's go get you something to eat!" As brother and sister, they would never let each other down, look out for each other, and would never let anything ruin their family relationship. Anamaria walks in the luncheon with Ashton and they both have a peaceful lunch with Maximus. The first time they all feel comfortable with themselves and have absolutely no problem.
