It took a while before I was finally ready for the dinner.
Ameena had made it a point of duty to change my appearance totally from my head to my toes.

I had a long, curly wig she had carefully and beautifully styled, she had painted my nails, made me up in the most attractive and slightly mild colors and had helped me with my black dress and red heels. It took a while before I could comfortably stand on them and take a few steps.
When she was done, I couldn't recognize myself.
I was beautiful. It was the kind of beauty the people around me in Nigeria had talked about.

I smiled as I walked out of my room and into the car specially prepared for me after Ameena had assured me that I didn't have to see Lady Aliyyah before leaving.
I got into the car and the car sped off.
I prayed in my heart as I clutched the red purse tightly to my stomach, that Ameena had kept her word.

I got to the venue of the dinner and saw various cars around the huge building. It was unlike the last party I had attended. The cars here were more and better than the ones of the queen dowager's party. The people who alighted were either single handsome men or handsome men accompanied by beautiful women.
I immediately felt intimidated.
At that moment, I wished I was a mere servant attending to such high and dignified guests.

When the car stopped, my heart began to beat faster. The driver got out and opened the door for me. I signaled at him to close it for a while as I wasn't ready.
As soon as he closed the door and stood beside it, I sighed. I prayed that I wasn't looking weird or horrible. For if there was anything I hated, it was making a fool of myself in a huge gathering.

After about ten minutes, I opened the door and the driver held it down for me as I alighted finally. He bowed as I walked past him and followed the paths the Princes had passed with their dates.
Cars were still in front of the building but everyone seemed to have gotten in.
As I got to the door, the guards stopped me and asked for my name. As soon as I told them, they bowed and politely let me in.

I walked in, and through the poorly lit hallway before going through an automatic door. Finally, I was inside, inside a huge hall, with so many beautiful faces. I was again intimidated.

In my intimidation, I didn't realize all the eyes on me. When I finally did, I prayed for the ground to open its mouth and swallow me whole. I looked down in embarrassment as I heard the whispers amidst the slow song playing from the huge speakers that were everywhere in the room.

And I began questioning myself.
Was it the dress? I knew it was too revealing.
Or was it the shoes? I could barely walk on them. Maybe I was looking stupid on them.
Or maybe it was the makeup. It was definitely the makeup. Ameena did this purposely. I knew she did.

Then, someone hit me from behind.
I turned immediately and I couldn't believe my eyes.

"Saeeda?" I asked as I stared at the beautifully dressed black girl standing in front of me.

"What? You think you're the only one who looks beautiful on a dress." She asked as she smiled at me.

"Wait." I was confused. "What're doing here and how are you dressed like that. How did they let you in or are you serving dressed like that?"

She eyed me and smiled. She drew closer and said in a loud tone,
"Thanks to you, we were given VIP invites."

I turned to her in shock. I know I asked Ameena to let them in, just didn't know she'd let them in through the front door.

"Aminah is overly excited. She's really mixing well with the royals. She'd probably be satisfied if she should die this night." She said smiling as she turned away to stare at someone. I traced her stare and saw a lady dressed on red with a glass of champagne, standing at the end of the room and talking with two neatly, handsome men.
