Her eyes lit up when she saw him walk casually into her room. She couldn't remember the last time he walked into her room. All he had ever done was rush into it to threaten or warn her about something she had done to get his attention.
She never regretted any of the things she had ever done.
She'd do anything to get his attention.

Anything.

She dropped her cup of tea.
"What a pleasant surprise, Sahib. Have you finally decided to be filial towards your mother?"

She hated the sound of that. She hated having to call herself his mother.

He looked at her, then paced around the room looking from furniture to painting and basically inspecting everything in the room.

"What're you doing Sahib? Are you looking for something, or someone?"

He turned back at her and took a seat right in front of her, making sure to avoid sudden contact with his injured hand.

"It was you, wasn't it?" He asked looking right into her eyes, his face blank like an empty sheet of paper. There was no emotion visible for her to read.

"I have done many things so you'd have to be more specific."

"Of course you have. You're the one who caused the deaths of most of my dead family members including my mother. The same one who ordered for tributes to be made to Arabia by lesser countries who depend on us, the one who killed Laila and brought her back, same one who even put me on my seat as Sultan."

She smiled.
"Well am I not glad you're aware of everything."

"Kareena." He called her name with so much authority, it made her shiver slightly.
"I tolerate you. It is not respect or fear that you have enough power to kill Asad like you did my other dead family members. I just tolerate you. It's basically because Aliyyah asked me to, pleaded with me to. My sister who had never begged for anything in her life, begged me to leave you be. Had it not been for that, whether or not I were Sultan would not stop me from separating your neck from your body. However, my patience is running thin. Your audacity to do certain things has made my patience run at its last lap."

Kareena was not liking where this was heading to.
"In case you haven't realized, what I feel for you is pure hatred. Hatred for everything you stand for. If you had children, I'd probably hate them too."

She smirked but it didn't stop him from continuing.
"However, what I feel for you doesn't matter. I have promised my sister to not lay a hand on you but I feel like soon, I'd have to apologize to her for having gone against my word. Honestly, I'd advise you to go back to the shadows you came from but knowing you, that wouldn't be possible. So, as Sultan, I have come to break the wings which made you think you could fly high. From this day onwards Kareena, all laws and rules made by you will cease to exist."

"Are you out of your mind?"

"Oh no, Kareena. I haven't even started yet. All those stupid laws, the ones where servants are made slaves, the ones where servants who miss Jumat will be whipped or killed, the ones where servants are brought from other countries by being kidnapped and trafficked. That too will cease to exist."

"You can't do that Sahib. Arabia will lose its power and authority."

"You made Arabia lose all that because of your stupidity and pride. I will not have another person ruling in my place. And so, from this day onwards also, I stripe you of your powers as Queen dowager and Queen mother. You are not even a mother so that title makes no sense."

"I will not allow that Sahib," she shouted as she sprang up.

"You will only be known as the former Sultana, my father's second wife and nothing else."
