CHAPTER 44

"Start talking Farah. What's your relationship with Kareena?" Ameena asked the girl kneeling on the coarse sand, naked with blood gushing out from all parts of her body. Her eyes and lips were swollen and it was hard to hear her when she spoke.
"Speak out, if you don't want to be subjected to more torture."

"I have none with her, my Lady."

"Then can you explain how Aminah and Saeeda were killed. Witnesses say the last person they were seen with was you."

"I promise by Allah, I didn't tell her majesty about them. I didn't even know her majesty knew about them."

"I shall have you bound and beaten until you're ready to talk. Trust me, I have a lot of time."

"My Lady, I've told you all I know. Please spare me."

"Tell me again."

"That evening, I met them after the dinner and we all walked back. Something came up and they left..."

"Tie her up and flog her until she gives in." Ameena interrupted.

"Wait, wait. I remember something. That night, she told me not to go for the dinner. I didn't understand until I saw her again. She was the one that took them away and it was easier to do so because they were drunk on something."

"Who is 'she'?"

"Muizzat, my Lady. It was Muizzat."

That was all she wanted to hear.
"I promise, I had no idea she was going to kill them. I couldn't have ever imagined that she'd do something so heinous. I beg you, forgive me, my Lady."

She looked down at her as she bled and wailed with head on the floor. She studied her again to see if there was more behind this charade of innocence.
She sensed nothing.
At least now, she had satisfied her curiosity, her curiosity of wanting to find out why Farah was the only friend that escaped death.

"Take her away. And starve her for three days."

"My Lady, please spare me. Please..." she pleaded as the guards took her away. She turned away and faced the rising sun. By now, Lady Aliyyah should be preparing to visit Sahiba to try to bring her out to the sun again.
She sighed.
Now it was time to find Muizzat, time to find out where she had hidden herself this time.

At that moment, her phone rang. It bore no I.D.
"Hello," she answered.

"No sign of Muizzat, my Lady."

"Keep searching. She can't have gone far. Make sure word gets to Abida that Muizzat should be kept alive, till she's ordered otherwise."

"Yes, my Lady."

"Send words also to the sisters. There shall be a quick and final meeting with Lady Aliyyah before she returns to the United Emirates."

"Yes, my Lady."

And the line went dead.
As she left the room, she wondered how Muizzat was able to get away under the watchful eyes of Abida, Kareena's most trusted servant and guard. But she knew, sooner or later, she'll surface somehow.
Hopefully, before either Kareena or Sahiba gets to her...

Sahiba:

"What do you mean you can't find her? How could she have just disappeared, right under your nose."

"She must have known that Ameena and the Sultan would be searching for her."

"They've already found out?"
