College AU
•~•
Today was not off to a good start.
Hanzo forgot to set his alarm the night before, so he woke up fifteen minutes before his class started. It didn't help that he had stayed up most of the night studying for a test in another class, so he was basically running on caffeine.
He didn't have time to do much, so he pulled his hair up in a messy bun, popped in a piece of gum, and threw in the first thing he saw: a shitty graphic tee and some ripped black jeans. Cursing under his breath, he ran out of his apartment into the parking lot.
"I'm gonna be so fucking late," he thought, annoyed with himself. He found his car and quickly got in, buckling his seatbelt and putting his key in the ignition. Muttering quietly, he pulled out of the apartment complex and started speeding towards his college.
His gaze kept drifting to the digital clock, praying that he'd make it in time. As he drove, he continued to mentally scold himself for sleeping in. "You better hope luck is on your side, Hanzo..."
The university came into view and he let out a sigh of relief. He soon reached the entrance and turned in, scanned for a parking spot near his class building. "Come on, come on, come on..."
The ravenet caught sight of one and started heading towards it, eager to take the spot. Suddenly, a car in one of the parking spots backed out without looking behind them. Panicking, Hanzo slammed on brakes and honked his horn. The car pulling out stopped, but the one behind him didn't.
Behind him, he heard a loud honk, followed by the crunch of metal. He froze, quickly shifting the car into park. He watched as the car that almost hit him found another way out, not even touching him. Sighing, the Asian checked his mirror and saw that he had, in fact, hit the truck behind him. With a frustrated groan, he turned the car off and went to check the damage.
As soon as he shut the car door, the other driver also got out. Hanzo braced himself, expecting to get chewed out. To his surprise, he heard a whistle instead.
"Damn, that's pretty bad..." a thick, county accent met his ears. Glancing up, Hanzo saw the person he had hit. It was a male, taller than him by a few inches and with a southern aura to him. What really caught his attention was the man's cowboy hat and prosthetic arm. Mentally, he forced down his curiosity and the voice that said, "Damn, he's hot."
The cowboy looked over at him, and something flashed in his eyes for a moment. "Sorry 'bout that," he apologized. "Y'know how car brakes are."
Hanzo snapped out of his thoughts. "No, don't apologize. It's my fault, really." His gaze travelled back to the cars. "My insurance will cover it. Let me just give you my information-"
"Hey now, what's the rush?" The other asked, leaning against his pickup truck.
The ravenet shot him a glare. "I'm running late for my class, that's the rush. Now, Mister...?"
"Jus' call me Jesse," he answered.
"Right, Jesse. Here's my insurance company, just ask for Hanzo Shimada." He held out a slip of paper with his insurance company's name and number on it.
The man, Jesse, flicked his gaze between Hanzo and the paper before taking it. "Hanzo, ya say?" he murmured, scanning over the paper before pocketing it. "Don't worry 'bout it."
"What?" The Asian said in confusion. "But-"
"I know someone who can fix it for me. They owe me a favor, anyhow."
"Still, I feel responsible. At least let me pay you halfway or something."
Jesse laughed, shaking his head. "If ya really wanna pay me back..."
Hanzo watched as the southerner reached into his car for something. A minute later, he pulled out a receipt with something scribbled in the back of it. The brunet passed Hanzo the receipt and simply said, "Call me, then. We can go on a date or somethin'."
The college student felt a blush creeping up his neck. "I- What?"
The cowboy laughed, a smirk on his face. "What can I say? I think yer real cute."
His blush grew deeper. "Um, thank you, Jesse. You're..." He struggled to find the words. "... Pretty attractive, too."
Jesse winked at him and reopened his car door. "Text me later, will ya, darlin'?"
Hanzo's mouth was dry so he settled for nodding. He watched as the brunet backed up and drove around his car, heading out of the parking lot. With a somewhat dreamy sigh, he got back in his own car and pulled into the parking spot. One glance at the clock told him he was late for class anyhow.
"God dammit, being late was worth it this time around..."
