I run out to Patton's car with a smile. I found a comedy film to watch, so I booked it and texted Patton the times. I'm pretty excited about it actually. I round the front of the car and climb into the passenger seat next to him. He nods to the backseat and I turn to see multiple bags of popcorn on the seats. I laugh.
"I'm always prepared!" Patton announces, before launching into his grand plan to sneak the snacks into the cinema as we pull away from the house and head through town to the cinema. We park two blocks away from the cinema because Patton's a money saver, not willing to waste anything on parking right outside the cinema doors or expansive movie snacks. I tell him that I don't care and I'll pay, but he's having none of it. The movie was nice, it was funny, it helped cheer me up after a dramatic morning, but I don't remember much of the storyline because I couldn't help but turn my head to watch Patton's expression light up at every funny moment. I love it when he laughs.

"That was great!" Patton says as we approach the escalators. I smile and nod in response. It's dark outside now, and looks like it's going to rain. We step out into the cold air and begin our walk back to the car. The rain starts to fall as soon as we're out of the parking lot, and it's not long before it's absolutely chucking it down, soaking through our clothes and into our skin. Patton's freezing, wearing only a polo shirt. I debate it for a while before I stop walking and pull my zip down, pulling my soaked hoodie off and draping it over Patton's shoulders. I begin to pull my hands away from his shoulders, but he grabs my right hand with his and holds it round his neck as we walk together in the rain.
"Thank you" Patton shouts over the loud sounds of rain on cement. There's a crash of thunder and Patton squeezes my hand tightly and yells, "Hey, why don't we stop at McDonalds for food quickly, wait til it calms down?"
"Yeah" I shout back. We take a detour down another street to the closest McDonalds. Inside is warm and smells delicious, and I'm so hungry after the movie, Patton ate most of the snacks. We find a table and I sit down.
"What do you want?" Patton asks with an amused smile, watching as I rub my cheeks for smudged eyeliner.
"Chicken burger, but I'll buy it, don't worry" I reply.
"No, don't be silly, you bought cinema tickets, I'm buying food" He says before grinning cockily and heading to the counter. I attempt to sort out my hair, but it's so wet that there's not much I can do. Patton's back a few minutes later with a tray of food. He sits down, putting the tray on the table, before taking off his glasses, and wiping the water droplets from the lenses on the sleeve of my jacket, which he's now wearing.
"A Happy Meal, really?" I laugh at him, lifting my food off of the tray.
"Always!" He says, pouting, before sticking his tongue out and returning my laugh. We eat and talk and laugh as we wait for the rain to ease off. When we've finished and the rain hasn't calmed at all, we decide to sprint for it back to the car. Our clothes are mostly dry now and we've warmed up too much to be spending ages in that rain. We sprint back to the car, laughing, climb in and drive off, the heating on full blast.

When we get back to my house, the rain is still pouring, but he walks me to the door nonetheless.
"You know, you can stay over, I mean, if you want?" I ask. He takes a second before responding.
"I'd like that"
We sit and watch The Office in the living room in silence for a long time, occasionally laughing at the screen. I look down at my phone to see that it's 1am, and I'm tired, but the bigger part of me wants to stay and watch him all night. Patton starts edging closer to me on the couch, before leaning into me and resting his head on my shoulder, I smile down at him, and he smiles back up at me, and that's when I decide that this feeling can't be just me, surely, at least, I hope it's not.
