Chapter 17 ~ My Treat

I have 3 days until the party, so I decide to devise my master plan.  I get up early and head downstairs, and begin typing my plan into the notes in my phone.  When I've finished typing it out, I copy and paste it onto a text to Logan, still unsure of Roman. 

Hey, plan for Saturday.
Patton and I head out on a date at 6.  You and Roman arrive by 7, I'll leave out the decorations and snacks and bowls and stuff for you guys to set up while we're out.  PLEASE DON'T EAT THE CAKE  OR SNACKS!  Ok, so I'll text one of you when we're on our way home, and you two crouch somewhere in the living room, turn the lights off.  Then I'll flick the lights on, you jump out and yell surprise and we have a little birthday, party, hangout thing for a few hours.  Sound good?

I send the text and wait for his response.  Minutes later, he replies.

Talked to Roman, he's down, plan sounds good, see you soon!

I smile to myself, turning off my phone as I hear footsteps coming into the kitchen behind me.
"Morning, sunshine" I say without turning round.
"Morning, beautiful"  Patton says, kissing me on the cheek before heading to the cupboard for cereal.  "Whatever happened to lazy mornings, you know, and breakfast in bed?"  He asks with a smirk.
"I've started early morning running"  I say, standing up and flexing my muscles.  He rolls his eyes.
"In your pyjamas?"  He asks, looking me up and down.  I shrug.
"Why not?"  He laughs, grabbing his cereal out of the cupboard as I hand him a bowl.  We sit down at the kitchen table and I clear my throat.
"So, Saturday's your birthday, wanna go on a big birthday date that night?  My treat, a nice dinner, just you and me"  He smiles before leaning over the table to meet my lips with his.
"I'd love that"
I stare into his eyes for a moment, before remembering that I need to pick up the cake today.  I tell him that I need to go to the pharmacy for allergy tablets before heading upstairs for a shower.  I brush the water out of my eyes as I step back into the bedroom.  It's 10:47, so the cake will be done soon.  I pull on the same jeans as yesterday, with a dark blue shirt and black hoodie, pulling on some  trainers before I leave the house, to pick up the cake, leaving Patton unpacking.  I head into town, weaving my way around people with my hood up, before I get to the bakery.
"Virgil!"  Doris shouts through the window looking into the bakery from the backroom. 
"Hey, Doris" I say back, raising a hand to her through the glass.  She quickly makes her way to the counter, wiping her hands and her forehead on a teatowel. 
"Are you ready to see the cake?"
"Of course I am!"
Doris walks out to the backroom again, carefully lifting a cake off of the counter and bringing it back into the bakery, placing it in front of me.  It's perfect.  The cake is round, covered in baby blue, vanilla frosting.  My message is written across the cake in a darker blue, bubblegum flavoured gel icing, a few small, red hearts cut out of royal icing decorate one side, and black royal icing cut into the shape of Patton's glasses sit on the other side.  I made sure that the cake itself was chocolate flavoured, and the frosting between the two layers is vanilla buttercream.  I look up at Doris in amazement.  She boxes the cake nicely for me, and I thank her for doing such a good job.  I pay her the money for the cake plus a big tip and even give her a grateful hug before waving her goodbye and leaving the bakery.
Patton's gonna love this cake.
