*Hamish POV*
Will, Uncle Mike, and I stand outside of our dads hospital room uneasily. I feel less nausious, but am still extremely worried for our dad. When uncle Mike pulled us from the room yesterday, dad seemed to be shaking and unable to catch his breath.
"Listen you two, you may not understand what's going on, but you have to understand that your Dad has been through a lot. I know things are scary but you have to be gentle with your father at the moment. Understand?"
"Can we see dad?"
I remain silent, trying to hold back tears. Uncle Mike looks worried, and hugs me and Will.
"In a minute. Don't cry Hamish, everyone will be okay, I promise."
Uncle Mike breaks away, rising to his full hight and looking through the door window. I press up next to Will, who is busy watching our Uncle. He traces circles on my back to help me calm down, still lost in thought. Uncle Mike turns the handle and ushers us into dad's room, grabbing our hands tightly.
Dad is in bed with machines hooked up to him, jumping when we walk in. Papa is standing close to him, and Dad is still shaking. We run over to them, jumping onto the bed. He looksat us with a worried look in his eyes, but he is smiling. The blankets are pushed down far enough to show his torso. I see his arms, which are normally covered, and they are severely scared.
"Gently."
Uncle Mike reminds us to be careful, taking a slow step foreward. Dad looks at us and reaches up, taking our hands gently in his. His eyes are bloodshot, glazed with tears.
"How are you feeling?"
"Fine, are you okay daddy?"
"I'll be okay, are you sure your okay?"
"I've got a headache but will be fine."
My words are muffled, I'm pressed up against his chest. He is still shaking, which worries both me and my brother.
"Sherlock, you need to calm down. You're okay, and your scaring the boys."
He takes a deep breath, running his fingers through my hair. Will is asking questions, making him shake even worse than before. I hug him tightly, crying again when I hear how fast his heart is beating.
"What's wrong Hamish?"
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah. I'm fine. Why are you crying?"
"You are scared again, and hurt too. Uncle Mike says you got sick."
"I'm okay. Its fine, please stop crying."
He cups my chin in his still shaking hand, gently wiping the tears from my face.
"When do you come home?"
Everyone looks at Papa, waiting for a response.
"Tomorrow. He comes home tomorrow."
I start to feel sleepy after a few hours, snuggling against daddys side.
"Are you feeling okay Hamish?"
"Tired."
He pulls me against his side, groaning in pain when I shift and press tighter against him. I can't move though, entirely passing out within seconds. Someone is shaking me lightly, drawing me out of my sleep.
"Hamish, its time to get up."
I open my eyes slowly, smiling when I see my dads face above me. He kisses my forehead, giving me a hug before someone else pulls me off of him.
"I love you two, ill see you tomorrow. Be good."
"Okay."
Uncle Mike picks me up, letting my lie against his chest. We walk out to his car, buckling in before driving back to the flat. I walk into the sitting room, noticing the places on the mantle where some items should sit. Uncle Mike gets sad when I ask him about what goes there, saying the items broke a long time ago.
"Why?"
"Your dad and I got in a fight, and some stuff got broken."
"How?"
"I was looking for something, and dropped them."
"Why where you fighting? Is that when the other man hurt daddy?"
"He did. He got Sherlock not too long after our fight, and he hurt him badly."
"Why where you fighting?"
"Sherlock was doing things he shouldnt be doing. Things that hurt him."
"Is that what you where looking for?"
"Yes."
Papa walks into the room, leading Will by his hand.
"The boys need to eat, Greg said he will make dinner."
Uncle Mycroft leaves the room, heading into the kitchen.
"Is everything okay Papa?"
"Yes."
"Are you sure?"
"Stop asking questions Hamish! The adults dont want to listen to you whining about things all the time."
Will doesn't often yell but, when he does, it scares me. I start crying, further upsetting him.
"Be nice to your brother. Both of you need to calm down, we are all under a lot of stress right now."
I run out of the room, wandering to the back room. Its a library, shelves full of neatly organized books. The desk is similar, made of a pretty, polished mahogany. I shut the door softly, leaning against it. It only takes me a few minutes to calm down, inhaling the scent of aged paper. I start walking around, pulling a work looking black book from one of the shelves. Something falls out, so I set the book down and pick up the small polaroids. They are of uncle Mike and Daddy, both looking happy. The pictures grow more serious as I flip through the book, a few showing daddy in a severely injured state. I shrink back behind the book case when the door creaks open, hiding from who I believe to be my brother.
"Hamish? Where did you go? Come out please."
I slowly poke my head into the light, seeing Papa standing in the doorway.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah."
He steps closer, shutting the door behind him.
"What did you find buddy?"
"A book of pictures. With uncle Mike. And daddy."
I move and pull him down beside me, leaning against his side. We flip through the pictures together, soon finding one of him and daddy together.
"This is us at our wedding, and here is your grandma Holmes. And Mrs. Hudson..."
He tells me about the wedding, describing everything with a dreamy look in his eyes. The door opens again, in the middle of the story, and Mr. Greg steps in.
"Dinner is ready."
We stand and walk into the kitchen, sitting at the table beside each other. Uncle Mike brings food out, and we start eating. Will is still upset with me, though he does apologise for yelling at me. After dinner, Papa puts us to bed while Uncle Mike and Mr. Greg clean up.
"You two need to go straight to sleep, we are going to get Sherlock in the morning. Right after breakfast. Good night, I love you two."
