I sit in my room with tears running down my face, laying in my bed. I hear footsteps coming towards my door and prepared for the worst.

Alyssa and Rose bust in and start cracking up.

"What's so funny?" I ask.

"Just the fact that you had any hope for getting adopted! You're so fucking stupid!" They laugh even harder.

"Oh yea? Well at least I have the advantage of not having to look like you. Then I would never get adopted." I snap back, feeling proud.

"How DARE you say that you bitch! At least I'm not a murderer!" They leave and slam the door.

My heart dropped in an instant. Why can't they leave that alone? It wasn't my fault, but it's not like they'd believe me. I start to have flashbacks; the screaming, the heat. I could feel a panic attack coming as my breathing became unsteady. I grab my satchel and run into the bathroom, trembling. I pull out my box of razors and do the only thing I know how. I make gashes appear up and down my arms, most of them were pretty small though. I watched as the red blood dropped down my arms, it was almost pretty.
It's what you deserve, you will never get adopted and you will never deserve to.
Shaking the voice from my mind, I finished and left the bathroom, and when my head hit the pillow I instantly fell asleep.

The next day

"Marie?"

I shifted as I felt a warm hand shake my shoulder.

"Marie? Why are you still asleep?"
I recognized the voice. It was Tyler. I quickly rubbed my eyes and tugged at my sleeves. He looks at me with his wide smirk.

"How come your stuff isn't packed?"

"What do you mean?" I ask, still half asleep.

"Didn't they tell you? I've decided to adopt you this morning!"
I give him a 'this is a joke' look.

"Okay, who set you up to this? It's not funny."

"No one! Look, here's the documents!"
He showed me the papers, and sure enough, they were legit.
I look at him in shock, then give him the biggest bear hug.
"Of course nobody told me! They all hate me here. I'll get my stuff packed."
I had Tyler wait outside of my room as I scrambled my stuff together, pinching myself to see if it was all a dream. I quickly lifted up my mattress and grabbed my box of razors to hide inside of my suitcase nervously.

He can never know.

I grabbed he rest of my things and walked out the door with Tyler.

Finally. I'm being adopted.

"So..." Tyler starts.
"What kind of food do you like?"

I ponder for a bit.
"Well, I love fast food."

"Great! That's something we have in common!"

I smile to myself. He seems so sweet. I walk outside and throw my suitcase into the van.
We pull into a McDonald's and pick up some lunch.
"Thanks Tyler."

He smirks.
"Call me dad, kiddo."

Dad...
I thought.

I haven't had a dad since....
