Obi's POV

I can't believe that after all these years my little sister is already so grown. I am so sad that I had to raise her in a very harsh environment. I know it's not my fault that I had to make sure we were safe and able to survive. But I remember the days before things changed.

Flashback~

When I was eight years old, my parents had just started teaching me the ropes of learning how to be a good assassin. They had taught me how to jump from tree to tree with incredible speed. I learned incredibly fast and my mom started calling me her little monkey since I was also a trouble maker of sorts. Since my parents were already assassins, they actually didn't mind as much. They did tell me that I shouldn't make trouble for good people however. A few months later, my little sister, Ari, was born. I was very surprised back then because I didn't really know where babies came from yet. Hahh(sigh), the good old days when I was innocent. She looked just like my mother who had dark brown hair and warm hazel (more greenish gold than brown) eyes while I looked like my father with my black hair and golden eyes. Even though we looked like our two different parents you could still tell we were related.

Ari was a very smart child. She started out as a regular baby but once she learned to talk and walk she was younger than 2 years old. By the time she was almost 3, she was already reading big words. However, the thing I found most interesting, was her obsession with plants. Luckily she didn't have any allergies so we allowed her to study them to her heart's content. By the age of five she started to study herbs. She was able to heal common illnesses and wounds. This came in handy for our family since we were assassins and all. My parents didn't really have the heart to tell her we were assassins. In the darkness of killing people, she was our ray of sunshine. She was a humanitarian at heart, innocent and pure. She at least had a sense of justice, so we didn't feel too bad since we mostly kill bandits.

Around the time I turned 15, I was a trained assassin and I was going to start going on jobs. Ari was only six but she had improved a lot and could be considered a professional herbalist at her age. Ari had started selling medicine to help when our family didn't have any jobs. It was that year, when something I never expected to happen, happened.

My parents had taken a big job and were gone for a couple of days. They told me to watch Ari since I was the older brother. They left and the next day I disobeyed them and went out for a job that should only take me a day. I would definitely regret making that decision. I knew Ari could take care of herself so I made sure there was food in the pantry and left. The next day I came home and Ari didn't greet me, I assumed that she was sleeping so I went to her room. I never would've guessed that she was crying. Ari was on the corner of her bed sobbing, while curled up in a ball. I tried to ask her what was wrong, but she just kept crying. I grew concerned I hugged her and rubbed her back until she calmed down. She hugged me tight and handed me a letter. I opened the letter and my eyes widened. The letter was from my parents.

It read:
Dear Obi and Ari,
We want you to know how much we love you both. We gave this letter to the mailman. We both have accepted the fact that we won't be coming back after this job. The people we were hunting down were stronger than anticipated, we're sorry to disappoint you both.

Ari, we hate to tell you like this, but our family is a group of assassins. Don't worry we don't kill any innocents. We were trying to kill these bandits from a group called the Claw of the Sea and once we saw what we were up against we knew we wouldn't make it out alive. Again, we are so sorry that you had to learn this way.

Now Obi, we need you to protect your sister and change locations. By the time you get this letter we are likely already dead. We are not sure of what the Claw will do if they find out the location of our home, that is why we need you to leave.

We are proud of the both of you and wish the both of you happiness and safety wherever you guys end up. This is not goodbye because we will always be with you in spirit. We love you Our Little Monkey and Ray of Sunshine.

Sincerely,
Your parents

"Ari," I said, "we need to go. Pack lightly." She looked at me and nodded, she started packing still sniffling. I got up to go to my room and closed my door. Once I did, I started crying. I didn't really know what to do. I just learned that my parents died and that I had to leave with my kid sister who is only 6. A half hour later, I was packing still and a knock came on my door. It was Ari, she was done packing. She looked at me and smiled, when I saw her smile, I hugged her suddenly and started crying harder. She hugged me back tightly and rubbed my back to calm me down. It felt like she was the older sibling. The only reason I started crying was that she reminded me of mom. I felt like she should depend on me more I am the older brother. The next day in the early morning, we set off for the nearest city, Lyrias.

[A/N I'm sorry it's a bit short. Don't worry the next part will be longer💖🤗.]
