We got to the Lowells' house about an hour ago. I missed them so much!! Especially little Hazel, she was so big now almost 3 😭! She's so cute and I just want to hug her forever, she's what I think having a little sister is like. Since her parents took care of us for a year she calls me Ari-nee, I think. It's the cutest thing ever and she stumbles over saying my name. I told Mrs. Lowell about my adventures as an apprentice court herbalist. Also about the prince and Shirayuki also Kiki and Mitsuhide (my ships). The one I talked about most was Ryuu, I missed him. He was my first friend really, all of the others were more Obi's friends.
It's been a little over a week and Obi and I would have to go and meet the others by the town entrance soon. I had to say goodbye to the Lowell's and I gave all of them a huge hug. Obi headed for the Laxdo base while I took my time to get to the town entrance since it was close.
After around an hour Shirayuki showed up with the others.
"Hi guys!! You finally made it!!" I exclaimed.
"Ari!" Everyone greeted.
I smiled at them and helped Shirayuki off the horse, even though I'm really short at least I know I'm strong enough to carry her.
We stood next to the town's border and as they left Shirayuki called out to them,
"Wait!!" They all turned around and she continued "Take care of yourselves!!"
They smiled and nodded then took off.
We then went into town to do our assignment from Chief Garack.
TIME SKIP
After we finished our task, we went to stroll around the town. I was about to ask if she wanted to meet the Lowell's but I heard a horse quickly heading towards us. I instinctively went in front of Shirayuki and tried to shield her. The horse came to a sudden stop, it was Mitsuhide. He quickly asked us if we would help the others to treat the soldiers at the Laxdo base. Of course, we agreed.
Shirayuki got on the horse with Mitsuhide and I ran ahead to the base. I snuck over the wall and caught a quick glimpse of Obi and Kiki on a balcony talking. I just went inside the base in search of the ill soldiers.
I went into the biggest room and saw all of the men lying on the floor resting. My heart clenched, it pains me to see all of these men in so much pain....I need to help them.
I immediately check those closest to the fire. I check their temperature and they are burning up. I rush to get water for them and some towels. At one point Prince Zen comes into the room and is shocked to see me there. However, he thanks me for coming and talks to Shirayuki by the doorway. Obi quickly comes in and ruffles my hair. He whispers with care, " Don't push it." I just smile at him with my eyes closed and continue working.
TIME SKIP
Shirayuki and I were working hard to figure out what was wrong we had been making reports in each of the soldiers and nothing matched up. Shuka came in and Shirayuki made sure to check on him, I continued to tend to the other soldiers. I was starting to feel a little light headed, maybe I need some water.
Shirayuki informed Shuka, I haven't determined the source yet, but it seems like the symptoms are changing." She's right the men are getting worse. The ones I'm tending to don't seem like they are too bad, but the ones toward the front are really bad. "It isn't progressing the way something like this should be."
A few moments later
Shirayuki suddenly collapsed and barely got out one word, "F-Fire."
I suddenly thought of the time when Obi had targeted some bandits so that his client could get the wood and knock out people with the harmful chemicals.
The wood!!!!
I rushed to grab the wood from the fireplace and poured the water to put out the flames. It worked for the most part, but not completely so my hands were a bit burnt. I grabbed the wood and put in a cloth. I quickly carried it outside and ran back to get Shirayuki and bring her outside so she could get some air.
I supported her as she walked and tried to regain her strength. Immediately as we stepped out the others were there.
"Shirayuki, what's wrong!?" Zen asked.
Shirayuki responded, " Oh I've just been
too close to the fire. That's the source, wood had particles, particles that are toxic to breathe. They cause the same symptoms too."
When the prince asked where they came from I automatically looked to Obi who was above us. I felt guilty because I didn't realize sooner and because it was partially my fault.
".....The medicine Ari and Shirayuki made did wonders." Shuka said.
I sighed in relief I'm glad it helped my head was a bit dizzy but I shook it off. My hands still stung a bit, I'll be fine.
My mood brightens when I see Prince Zen praising Shirayuki and asks her to stay and nurse the men back to health. I mean of course she will say yes, but it was kind of awkward when he snapped out of his trance and added, "and of course Ari."
At the same time the two of us responded, "Yes!!"
Time Skip
Shirayuki and I were tending to the soldiers. I had been writing all the reports and Shirayuki had been making the medicine. Obi told me Shirayuki looked a bit tired so I made the medicine sometimes. I don't think either of us were able to sleep because we were worried for the soldiers. The others saw the improvement of the soldiers and went to the roof. Bandits. I don't wanna toot my own horn but I KNEW IT!!!
The others were planning to go and find the bandits. I was continuing to eavesdrop when I heard Brobi volunteer to find them. I perked up and told them I was hoping to help. At first the others denied it saying it was too dangerous. I just looked at them like, really have they met my brother? Obi tried to tell me the same thing. Zen said, "Ari can you please do me this favor and look over Shirayuki, she's been overworking herself. I know you have been to, you need to rest." I sighed in defeat, Kiki ruffled my hair and said, "Don't worry, rest until your brother comes back, maybe we will let you in on the action." I smiled and nodded.
Obi should be back in about 3-4 hours. Now I will just make sure Shirayuki is asleep. After I wil make sure the soldiers don't need anything. Then I can finally get some rest too and maybe we can ask go home so I can ser Ryuu again.
Obi's POV
I came back after a few hours. Zen asked me to grab Ray to fulfill his end of the deal. But when I got in the room I saw her. She was sleeping peacefully, its been awhile. I know she has barely slept while being here. However, I knew nothing I said would change that.
"Where's Ari?" Mitsuhide asked.
I smiled genuinely as I saw the others then answered,
"She's asleep."
I guess these people are changing the both of us for the better, huh Ray.
