Today was the big day. Not the wedding, no, but to find the right dress. A Princess' wedding dress was a big deal and I had to make sure it was right, what I wanted. I wasn't going to be uncomfortable on my own wedding day.
I met with Mother, Lily, Aiysha and Julian's Mother. Rosa came along with me to help and, as she promised, give her honest opinions. I knew the other three, despite being well meaning, wouldn't tell me shit if they didn't like the dress. They sat on a long couch in the middle of the shop, surrounded by rack after rack of dresses. I felt like I was in an episode of Say Yes to the Dress.
"Matilda, I need to tell you something." Lily admitted, looking utterly guilty. Her face said something that I couldn't quite decipher.
"What is it?" I smiled, patting down the dress I was trying on. It was a long, white, silky dress with a Bardot style at the shoulders. The lace flowed down and came in a little at the waist before floating down to my feet. Underneath was a white silk to prevent any immodesty, as Mother would put it. "Oh, I like this one."
"It's very you." Aiysha grinned. I glanced at Rosa who nodded.
"It is beautiful, Matilda."
I felt rather bubbly at Rosa's words as I trusted her for her honesty. If she didn't think it appropriate, she'd come out with it immediately.
"What is it, Lily?" I grinned, turning to face her. She looked full of guilt. "What's happened?"
"I told Josh where you'd be today."
I immediately felt sick. I was furious with her, not understanding her motives.
"Why on earth did you do that?!" I fumed, looking around incase he was near.
"He wants to make his case before you marry, Matilda! Is that so bad?"
"Make his case!" I chuckled, fuming with anger. "He cheated, Lily. He doesn't get a say in what I do now, especially after being the drunkard fool at my engagement party."
"I mean-"
Julian's mother was looking daggers at Lily. If looks could kill, Lily would've been crucified the moment she made her confession.
"It's fine." I breathed, trying not to make a fuss of it all. It wasn't worth it. "I don't blame you, you were doing what you thought was best for me and that is ok. Josh, however, I do blame." I paused. "Wait here just a minute." I reassured them.
"You're not going to talk to him, Matilda?" Mother questioned as I stepped down and traced my steps back to Smithers.
"I'm not stupid, Mother." I called back, going round the corner. "Smithers!" I yelled, grabbing his attention. He stood by the door and smiled at me.
"You look lovely, Your Highness."
"Thanks." I grinned. "I have a request."
"What is it?" He prompted me, nodding. Before I could tell him, the bell by the entrance jingled and a flurry of voices came through with a figure who was immediately recognised.
"Mate, I don't think this is a good idea." Hugh called, rushing in after the figure. Jeremy followed only a second later. I felt like I was in a re-enactment of The Three Musketeers.
"Matilda." Josh breathed, clearly a little out of breath by his running. He looked tireder than when we'd last met.
"Josh." I smiled. "Here to apologise for your drunk behaviour, hm? Or the cheating? I'm sure you're spoiled with choice." I turned to Smithers. "See him out, will you, Smithers? I don't think I have any need for.. well, him. Not anymore."
