Chapter Twenty-Two
Scarlett's POV
"Thank you for your time, Scarlett. We now have a big enough case to keep Nate in prison for a long time. Stay safe," the interviewer gets up and leaves Matt and I alone in the interviewing room.
I let out a breath I hadn't realized I'd been holding in. Matt and I sit and silence for a few minutes, neither of us wanting to speak or make the first move first.
After a few minutes, I find my voice, "We did it, we've taken care of Nate. He's gone."
Matt turns to me and puts his arm around me, "He will never hurt you again, not as long as I'm still alive."
I nod my head, a trace of a small smile evident on my porcelain face. After another few more minutes of silence, Matt speaks again, "Are you ready to go home?"
He stands up and offers me his hand. I take it and stand up alongside him. "Yes, I am."
We head out of the police station into the hot Florida sun.

The minute Matt's trucks' wheels hit the gravel, my seatbelt is already unfastened and my hand is on the door handle.
Matt laughs, noticing my stance. "Easy there tiger."
I shoot him a glare and wait. His wheels come to a halt and I fly out of the car. I take his stairs two at a time until I'm standing at his front door.
Not wasting anytime with knocking or ringing the doorbell, I push open the door and am greeted by Georgia and Matt's mom.
"Georgia!" I yell excitedly.
"Mommy!" she cries out and pushes herself to her feet.
She runs up to me and I scoop her up into my arms, burying my head into her neck. The tears flow silently.
I hear the door open, but I make no move. Soon, I feel Matt's arms around us, completing our family.
This is how it always should've been. Just us three.

Sorry for such a short chapter. There just wasn't enough to write about, plus I've been fighting a terrible case of writer's block. And it's so close to the end too. I can't believe it's almost finished. I can't wait to write the epilogue. But until then, stay classy everyone!
