Scarlett's POV

6 Months Later

"Scarlett!" Matt shouts at me.

"Yes?" I spin around after finishing shortening Jessica's stirrups.

"Can you run back up to the barn and grab the hoof polish? They have about another five minutes before they show."

"Okay," I smile. I walk to him and he gives me a quick peck on the lips.

"I love you."

"I love you, too," I give him another kiss.

I send Jessica and Georgia into the warmup arena, to get ready to be schooled by Matt.

After making sure they are all settled in, I start heading up to the barn.

As I'm walking, I catch a glance at my engagement ring. It's beautiful. Oh how time flies. I can't wait for the wedding next weekend. I have everything planned to a tee.

Just as I reach the barn, I feel a strong hand grab my elbow and spin me around.

I gasp, my eyes widen, my legs begin to shake, and my face pales.

"Thought you had seen the last of me girly?" he growls.

I'm too scared to speak.

"Time for a little fun then," he smiles, a devilish smile.

Before I have a chance to fight for my life. His fist collides with my head and my entire world turns black.

Matt's POV

"Where's mommy," Georgia asks.

"I don't know, she must have ran into someone she knew," I try to comfort both her and me, but it has been fifteen minutes. That is way too long. She missed both of Georgia and Jessica's rounds. Which is something she never does.

"You cool off your horses, I'm going to go check and see where mommy is."

The two girls nod and walk off, leaving me with my worries.

Just as I finish climbing up the hill, an ear-piercing scream shatters the entire show. Everyone, including the judges, stop and turn to see what cause the scream.

As soon as I gather my thoughts again, I take off racing towards where the scream came from, including some other trainers and parents.

As I round the wash stalls, that's when I see it.

Blood.

Blood everywhere.

I slow pace, following the trail of blood. That's when I see Hannah crying uncontrollably and shaking. I rush over to her.

"What? What is it? Are you okay?" I ask concern etched in my voice.

She shakes her head and points a finger in front of her.

Suddenly my world stops, as I turn to see what she's pointing at. As soon as I see it, I feel as though my entire life has ended.

Propped up against the wall is Scarlett, her clothes torn off and a knife sticking out of her chest.

A voice that didn't sound like my own cries out, "Someone call 911!"

I fall beside her, cradling her face and crying.

"Please be alright. Please stay alive. Please for me and Georgia."

Matt's POV

It's been three hours and still they haven't said anything. Georgia is busy resting against me. She has no idea what happened to mommy. She just knows that mommy had an accident.

"Matt," Scarlett's doctor walks out, looking solemn.

"Yes," I stand up, gently laying Georgia down on the mini couch.

"I'm afraid to inform you that Scarlett's wounds were too severe, we could not save her."

My entire broken world shatters, again. I can't form words in my mouth, so I just nod and sink into my chair, waking up a tired Georgia.

I don't know what to say to her.

After all, there are no happy endings in life. Just when you think you finally get one, it is murdered, ripped away from you. It leaves you, once again, heart broken and crying.

I turn to a sleepy Georgia. "Where's mommy?" she yawns.

I gulp, and bend down to her level, "Georgia, mommy's not coming home, but me and you, we can make it through this. We'll be okay."

She wraps her little arms around me and cries into my chest. I wrap my arms around her.

I lied.

I won't be okay.
