It was right after sacrament meeting when my phone buzzed.
My mom gave me a sharp look. I wasn't exactly allowed to bring my phone to church, only for scriptures. She didn't like it when I texted or whatever during church because it wasn't the time, and I understood. All of my friends knew that they were not to text me from 1-4.
I shot her an apologetic look before peeking at the screen.
It was a monkey face.
I gave a small smile and rolled my eyes. I then locked my phone again and turned to the speaker who had just gone up and gave her my full attention. I'll text him back later.

"Who was that after sacrament meeting?" My mom asked after church when we were driving home.
"Just someone I tutor at school," I replied cooly.
She nodded. "Okay."
"Bubby!" Irisa called out from the back. "Bubby bubby bubby!"
"Risa, stop! My name is Rance, not bubby!" Rance exclaimed.
"Oh shut it, Rance. Let her talk and be quiet," Hayden muttered.
I turned around. Rance was 6, Irisa was 2, and Hayden was 14.
"Hey, hey. It's alright," I said. "How was Primary, Rance?"
His face lit up. "It was awesome! Sister Forest gave me a fruit snack and said I did a good job on my coloring. Do you like it?" He held up a scribbled picture of Jesus.
"Yes, it's very beautiful!" I said. "What about you, Risa? How was nursery?"
Irisa smiled. "Fun fun fun!" She cried.
"How was Teacher's Quorm, Hayden?" Mom asked.
"Fine."
"I saw you talking to Mary," I teased. "She's pretty cute."
He blushed and glared at me. "That's none of your buisness."
I laughed. "Easy there, tiger. Just remember you're only 14, mister."
"I know. How was Relief Soctiey, Mom?"
I gave Hayden a look. Once you ask mom about Relief Society, she'll never stop talking. She's the president and there's always some new project they're doing.
"Oh, you'll never guess! Sister Gumby said that she knew someone who could donate some fabric so we could make those quilts! You remember, Kylee? The ones on Pinterest? They looked so easy and it said any one could do it, which is good because you know not everyone can sew..."
I tuned her out. Instead, I thought of young women's. In my Laurel's class, there was me, Rosie, a girl named Alison and another named Keri. It was fine, although sometimes feelings got unintentionally hurt and there was drama. As I thought more about it, I had a feeling that I would have to ask how Keri was doing, she seemed sad and angry today at church.

"Hello?"
"Hi, Keri. This is Kylee. What's up?"
"Hi Kylee. Nothing much." I heard her sniffing.
"What's wrong?" I asked gently.
After two seconds, she spoke the four words that I hear oh-so-often from her.
"My boyfriend dumped me!!"
I sighed, partly from relief that it wasn't something really hugely wrong and partly because Iof the number of ex's she has.
"I'm sorry," I said.
"Yeah, well it's not your fault. He kept on going somewhere after school without telling me. I think he was cheating on me, too! Like when he wasn't there for our regular date, I had his friend call and he told me to go away!"
"Was it someone from our ward?"
"No. He isn't a member."
"Oh. Would I know him?" I asked.
"I don't think so. His name is Braxton Shaw. You know, tall, brown hair, green eyes..."
Holy cheeseballs.
"Braxton Shaw is your boyfriend?"
"Yeah. Or until yesterday he was. I don't get it Kylee, I did everything for him! He was my life!! I even went all the way with him!!" She was in hysterics.
I felt my mouth hang open. "You what?"
"Uh...nothing. Nothing," she stuttered.
"Keri, you know about the law of chasity."
There was a minute of silence before she replied, "Yeah."
"You know what the For The Strength Of Youth says about what to do if you break it?"
"Yeah, I guess. But it's not a big deal, Kylee."
"Keri," I said sternly. "We are supposed to save ourselves for that one special person when we get married. It's a God-given abilty to create life and you know it's a terrible sin to abuse it."
"I know."
I sighed. "I heard that Bishop Keys stays at the shurch until 6. It's 5:15 right now. Why don't you go over and talk to him?"
I heard her sigh on the other end. "Alright. Thanks, Kylee."
"Anytime."
