THE CO - WIVES

CHAPTER 22

James's POV CONT...

Once out, I saw the OCS seated looking down, as if in deep thoughts. Once he saw me he suddenly shot up and asked me how Jacky was. I assured him that she's fine and I had left her with my wife. "What the fuck!? James are you fucking insane? How do you trust your wife of all the people? He said as he ran towards Jacky's room. We found doctors trying to resuscitate her.
" What just happened here Doc? What is happening? Can someone tell me? Where is Joyce? Where is the lady I left here with the patient?"
I was hysterical.
Nobody was answering me. The doctor and the nurses were busy resuscitating her.
Joyce was nowhere to be found. I felt like a fool for trusting her with Jackie. How gullible was I to trust her with my Jackline's life?
"Answer me doc, damn!"
I was losing it. I held the doc by the collar and demanded for an explanation.
"Someone just tried finishing what they started! This young lady's life is in danger. I don't think she should be left alone at all."
That's all the doc could say.
"I told you James, nobody should be trusted, not even your own shadow!"
That's all the OCS could say.
Jackie's breathing had stabilized. It's like she had a panic attack.
But still, her speech was unstable and she couldn't speak at all. Her eyes were open but she looked hysterical. The doctor sent the nurse for something and when she came back, he injected a substance into her system. She seemed to calm down eventually, then slowly, she began closing her eyes. The doc told us not to wake her up and he assured us that she was stable and she was gonna be fine when she finally woke up.
He asked the OCS and I  to follow him to his office.
I gave Jackie one last glance, held her frail hand and assured her everything was gonna be alright..... A male nurse was left looking after her.
On the way to the doc's office, I had a lot of questions going through my mind. I wondered where Joyce had gone to.
I was woken up from the reverie by John the OCS who patted me on the back, assuring me that everything was gonna be fine.
"Joyce must have escaped for fear of blowing up get cover."
He told me.
At the doctor's office, he told us to make ourselves comfortable and as we sat down, he looked concerned and I knew for sure whatever he wanted to tell me was serious.
"Mr. James, I am glad the OCS accompanied you. The case of your patient is a serious one. Just some minutes ago after you left the ward, two men came in and tried stabbing Jackie, fortunately, the woman whom you left in there tried to prevent them and the stab got her in the head. Though the guys panicked and they left through the back door...."
"What are you trying to say doc, that some goons got into the ward and tried killing Jackie uh? Is that what you are trying to tell me??..."
The doc looked as confused as the OCS.
They looked at me in turns. I was really ranting. You would have thought Jackie meant the world to me. The fact is, she really meant everything to me.
"Calm down James! Come to think of it, the lady who was stabbed at the head must be Joyce! Is she your wife?"
"What are you saying doc, do you mean Joyce was stabbed by those goons!"
I had even forgotten about her for a moment! Poor Joyce!
"Where is she? Where is my wife?"
"Calm down James! You are getting worked up all over again!"
That was John trying to calm me down.
"How can I calm down when my two women are in this hospital fighting for their dear lives? You should have arrested the culprits doctor! You should have held them hostage!"
I even laughed inwardly at my insensitivity.
The doc was only armed with syringes, and the goons were armed with knives. So unthoughtful of me!
"Calm down James, Joyce was lucky to escape with just a scratch on the forehead. It wasn't a deep cut.... Calm down, will you?"
"Where is Joyce right now, show me the ward she is in!"
He led us to another doctor's room and Joyce was there, getting treatment for her head. She had a slight cut on the  face and I felt guilty for thinking ill of her. I got closer to her and I could see her blouse had some blood stains. I composed myself and drew her into a passionate hug.
She sobbed on my chest, assuring me that everything was gonna be fine. Guilt was eating me up already!
She was indeed a strong woman!
"Who did this to you Joy, did you see them?"
I asked, curiosity taking the better part of me.
The OCS dragged me from her hold and set me aside.
"No more questions James, you might complicate the case. Let's have a talk outside, with the head doctor, please?"
I walked out reluctantly, after assuring Joyce all was gonna be well.....
We settled again at the doc's office and I waited for the OCS to speak.
"Doctor, James, this thing is getting out of hand. I think it's the high time we took stern measures in protecting the patient because it seems there is more than meets the eye. We have to be vigilant because it seems Jeff and Diana had accomplices!"
I was too shocked to speak. I just scratched my head randomly.
"What measures do you think we should take officer?"
Asked the doc curiously.
I came to learn later his name was Frank.
"I have something in mind. Only if James here is in agreement."
I nodded my head, to show that we were together in everything.
The OCS laid Down the strategy and we all concurred with him. We were good to go....
