THE CO - WIVES
CHAPTER 24
JOYCE'S POV
When I heard Jackie was hospitalised, I rushed to the office but James wasn't there. I drove to the said hospital and a nurse directed me to her ward.
James was there, pity partying, caressing her palm. I felt sad upon seeing his struggle. I was ready to share him just to see him happy. That's how much I loved him.
He gave me a passionate hug which startled me, as a tear escaped his dry eyes.
He left me and went out to talk to john the OCS.
Just like lightening, two masked guys happened to attack us, and their main target was Jackie. I was hurt in the process trying to protect her. I wondered why I had grown so fond of her!
Maybe someday she was gonna give me tips on how to make James happy😒.
I escaped with a cut in the forehead though it wasn't deep. Something about one of the guys left me suspecting something. His Cologne hovered all over the place. I knew whom it belonged to!
As the doc was attending to me, James and John arrived and he seemed happy to see me. I was attended to and James drove me in my car to the house as the OCS drove his car.
Back in the house, heavy security was deployed.
I tried to engage James into a conversation but it seemed like I was number one suspect for the case.
James avoided me and whenever went out, I was accompanied by armed plain clothed cops.
James refused to come back home but I was okay with that. At least I had to help him find who was behind Jackie's attacks. As much as I wanted to see her and know how she was fairing on, nobody allowed me to. It's like I was the main suspect but I wished they knew that I had her best interest at heart. There by then, I swore to help them unravel the mystery. I knew where to start....
One chilly morning, I asked the cop driver I was assigned to drop me in the advice after dropping the kids to the school.
I went straight to the HRs office but he was yet to arrive. I also passed by the head of procurement's office but he hadn't arrived yet. The receptionist as usual was there, wearing her usual smile. The new secretary was doing fine and the accountant too.
My husband was yet to arrive as well.
I got into my office and settled into the computer. Being an IT expert, I wanted to replay the CCTV footage for the last one month.
I clicked on date 18th June 20.....
I could see all the activities in every department. The coming in and going in of everybody.
Most of the times, I could see the two guys talking in whispers. They either went out for lunch together, or drove out in the same cab while going home.
I wondered why they were so interested in the poor girl. Why not me? Why not James? I thought everything as settled down when Diana was arrested. Jeff was still fighting for his dear life in the HDU. It's like he had drifted off into a deep slumber never to wake up again. I heard his people were negotiating with the doctor to disconnect the machines to stop him from the suffering. The doctors refused because they termed him dangerous even in his death.😂
The suspense was too much but as much as I was willing to unravel the mystery, I also feared for my life and that of my kids!
I had seen enough for one day and as I rose to go home, James arrived and said hi, then asked me how the kids were. We spoke for some minutes and I left to the house, with the cop being the driver. I just laughed it off when I saw the OCS in my Hubby's car. I waved at him as the cop saluted. So James was also enjoying the OCS's security? What happened to his bodyguard who never left his side?
The matter was serious. But I wasn't gonna record my statement yet.
I had my suspects mind but if James and john continued treating me as one of the suspects, I wasn't gonna spill the beans. Let them keep on suspecting a harmless woman while the real culprits lay right under their nose!
