THE CO - WIVES

CHAPTER 28

Jacky's POV
One week after James went outside the country, my mum knocked at the door. She looked happy and unsure at the same time.
"How have you been Jackline?"
She asked me immediately she settled on the couch.
"I'm fine mum."
I replied.
I served her some juice because it was still early.
"There is something I have been meaning to tell you that's why  I decided to come personally to see you!"
I wondered what she wanted to say. I was listening keenly....
"I know you won't believe this my daughter but you have an identical twin sister..."
,"whaaaat? Mum? Are you kidding me? If this is a joke then you gotta stop it!"
I almost chocked on my juice.
"I am serious Jackline. The baby I thought to be dead at birth was stolen from my by a village nurse who sold her to a childless couple...."
I looked at mum keenly, waiting for her to burst out laughing and say
"It's a joke!"
But that wasn't happening. Mum was serious.
I was tongue tied. I couldn't speak at all.
"The nurse is from our village. She came to my house three days ago. She narrated to me the story of how she stole my baby and sold her to the couple."
"Why did she come to you now that I am all grown and you already forgotten about my twin'?"
I asked her curiously.
"That what I asked her. She told me her soul has been restless ever since and she was willing to take me to the couple's home. I accompanied her to the neighbouring town and we traced their home. The couple were already aged and they were happy to see me. They apologised for stealing my baby and they were ready to let me see her...."
She paused to gulp down some juice.
"Fortunately, she had just arrived home from the city and she had gone to visit a neighbour. They called her on phone and she came back immediately."
My mum went on to explain how Jannie was shocked to hear that her parents weren't her  biological parents.
"She was in denial. She locked herself in her room and cried a river.
When she was finally over the trauma and shock, she came back to us, hugged me and told me that she wanted to see her twin sister. We agreed that I wasn't gonna sue them nor take her away from them but they were gonna allow me to be seeing her more oftenly. I forgave the nurse too because I wasn't ready to harbour any hatred in my aging heart."
Her face shone with excitement. I have never seen her this happy in ages. Since daddy died, she has been withdrawn, not wanting to socialize with people. My mum could finally smile.
"Where is my sister...?"
Before I could finish the sentence, the door was pushed open and a slender girl, my replica entered the house. She looked every inch like me! She had my complexion too.
I rushed towards her and we all entangled into a hearty hug.
After the hug, I welcomed Jannie to have a sit and I served her some juice.
She was a talkative lady. She was fin to be with.
Mum left to the village and left Jannie with me.
So, tell me twinnie, what are you currently doing?
"I am still looking for a job sis. I haven't been lucky at all!"
"Don't worry siz, I will get a job for you very soon!"
I assured her.
We chatted about nothing and  everything in particular. From her talking, She was a carefree soul and that must have been the first red flag.
She told me she didn't believe in dating and she only did random guys. Oooops!
I told her about my job, James, Joyce and everything else about me. I also showed her a pic of James and told her about his proposal.
"Where is this Angel James right now?"
She was curious.
"Relax siz, you will get to see him... He is currently out of the country. He will be back after three weeks!"
I didn't realise that I was giving out too much information to a stranger, turned my sister....twin sister for that matter.
She told me that she stayed with a friend so she  had to go and pick her stuff so that she may stay with me. I had no problem with that st all.
As weeks passed by, I could notice her traits which I never knew.
I would go to work and come back to find the house untidy, no food, she did nothing in the house. I never complained, even once.
I didn't want to tell mum because she was against the idea of her moving in with me. I had to swallow the bitter pill. She would smoke in the house and leave the ashes lying on the carpet.
I once asked her why she doesn't help me with house work but she was rude to me.
"This is your house Jackie, you cm as well clean it! And if you are hungry, just cook, we will eat!"
The guts she had.
She was my twin after all and she gave me company.
Three weeks later, I was totally fed up with her and I was ready to send her back to where she came from. I was waiting for James to come so that I may ask him to connect her with a job but I was slowly changing my mind.
I had travelled home that weekend to see mum and tell her all about my sister's behaviour.
Mum advised me to just hold on and when she gets I job, I tell her to look for her own place.
My phone's battery had died and I didn't want to use solar to charge it.
I drove back to the city that Sunday and upon charging my phone, I found several voice messages from James.
My sister was in her room soundly asleep.
I called him severally but he didn't pick. I assumed maybe he was asleep or in church......
