THE CO - WIVES

CHAPTER 14

JAMES'S Point of view.
I was surprised when the OCS told me it was a matter of mistaken identity. Whoever had relayed the information to the police had no facts. I was angry. I felt like using all my anger on someone.
In the station, I met Jackline's mum who never got tired of checking on the progress of the case with the police.
We had a chat here and there and I couldn't help but pity her. I had given her the key to Jackie's house, bought her some provisions but I never bothered checking up on her. She looked stressed and had lost alot of weight.
I had instructed the HR to write a petty cash for Jackie's salary, which I gave to her mum to sort out rent and food for the month.
I couldn't help but notice the similarities between mother and daughter.
While at the station, I remembered the number which Jeff had send a text with before we net in TRM.
I searched for the SMS and I found the number. I gave it to the OCS and the investigations took another turn.
Atleast, we could trace the last place Jeff send the text from. I was sure it was somewhere along Thika road.
The OCS gave out the number to the investigator. Within no time, we were called on the room. Jeff had surely cleaned all his tracks. There was no signal at all.
The number wasn't traceable, neither was the cellphone used!
DAMN!
I couldn't help but think about the poor girl Jackie. I missed her. I so missed her.
The OCS got a call from the hospital that there was an attempt on Jeff's life. A lady disguised as a nurse had found her way into the ward and was caught injecting a poisonous substance into his drugs. He suggested that we go and visit Jeff in the hospital and see how he was fairing on. I wonders who would have wanted him dead.... "Joyce!" I exclaimed inwardly. She was gonna hear from me! She wanted him dead so as not to disclose the where abouts of Jacky!
We left in my car, together with Jacky's mom.
The officers outside the ward allowed us in after seeing the OCS.
Lo and behold, Jeff was no longer in the ICU.
He was better but he couldn't recognise anybody.
I tried to talk to him but his look was distant. He didn't seem to recognise me. The nurse explained to us how the Lady got into the ward and almost killed him. Her description didn't fit those of Joyce. But they fit someone I knew. But I couldn't place a finger on who it was. Unfortunately, she outwitted them all and escaped!
Why was finding Jackline proving to be so hard? Oh God! Help us out! I prayed inwardly.....
Jeff was in a trance. What could have he done in his state. We had to wait for him to regain his memory so that he may lead us to Jackie. We had a strong feeling that she was still alive.
We left the hospital unhappy, but we were not going to give up on her. Wherever she was, she needed us most.
All through out the journey, the OCS kept on encouraging us. He assured us that they were gonna do whatever it takes to ensure Jackie is found, healthy and whole. I thanked him for his persistent help, and dropped him in the station. I then dropped Jacky's mum into the house and gave her some money for upkeep.
I drove to my mansion in kitusuru. I needed my alone time, despite the fact that Joyce kept on texting asking on the progress. Though I updated her, I wasn't gonna face her that day.
I still felt she had a hand in Jacky's disappearance.
Back in the mansion, I took out a bottle of scotch whisky from the cabin and downed it in one gulp. I needed to drown all my sorrows.
In my drunken stupor, I sung love songs to my Jackie. I promised to make her my wife immediately she was found.
I was that helpless.
Helpless in love.
