THE CO - WIVES
CHAPTER 20
Joyce's POV
All plans were through and all that was left was to wait for Jacky. She had taken too long to
arrive as James had called me about four five minutes before to say that she was on the way. We waited and waited until I got restless, thinking that they had Fought up with James. Maybe they are making out, I thought. The thought itself gave me a tinge of jealous. James arrived about an hour later asking where Jacky was and everyone looked at him and thought he was pulling a stunt.
I got scared and pulled James aside. "What do you mean where is Jacky? I thought you said she's on her way about an hour ago. What the hell do you mean?" I asked him as I shook him by his shoulders.
"Joyce stop fucking joke with me. Do you mean she's not here? I need to call her." He thundered as he took out his phone. He called her in my presence, the call went through but nobody was picking. We tried calling her over and over again, but nothing. I was now seriously worried as I prayed for her wellbeing.
What's happening, I asked myself. Where could she be? After failing to get hold of her James decided to call the OCS telling him that we can't get a hold of Jacky. He was literally going mad as I tried to calm him down. As we all waited to hear from the OCS I received a call from my friend Mama Serah, who was a doctor at Nairobi women's. She was a good friend and confidant, although I couldn't share some stories including my co wife's. I excused myself to talk to her and after a while I went back to where our employees and husband were. He pulled me outside shooting daggers with his eyes.
What have I done, I asked myself as we walked out. "Where is she Joyce? If you tell me now, no harm will come to you. If you don't trust me, you will feel my wrath. Can't you at least feel remorseful for all you've done? Can't you at least cut this innocent girl some slack? God!" He said as he scratched his head.
"Babe...
" Don't fuckin babe me! Call me James!" He cut me.
"OK James. I don't know where she could be. I...."
"Who were you talking to on the phone and why did you have to excuse yourself just to pick a freaking call?" He cut me again.
"I received a call from Mama Serah. You know her and udaku..." I tried to explain as I shrug my shoulders. "Give me your phone. Let me see." He said as he stretched his hand for my phone which I gladly handed over. After scrutinizing it he gave it back and hugged me telling me to forgive him and that it was really hard to trust anyone at this point. He looked helplessly at me and asked, "what has happened now? If it's me they want why don't they just get me and leave her alone? Better still if it's my business they want why can't they just come and I'll hand it over to them?" It was evident that James had fallen madly in love with this girl. It's like his whole life and happiness revolved around her! You can't blame a man in love especially when his wife once cheated on him, could you? Poor James! Poor Jackie! But now, where could she be? We had planned a special surprise for her. I only wished we had an answer to the questions running through our heads. In all this, we never realized two of our employees were not with us. It didn't matter to us who was and who wasn't. At this point all we had to do was wait. And wait we did, until it was time for us to leave for home. James was left behind as he thought that she would appear, maybe she was scared of someone, maybe him, maybe something. We all couldn't tell. We said our goodbyes and left for our respective places after of course asking Jacky's mum whether she had heard from her. The answer was negative and it scared us. This girl had gone through a lot in the past one month! I hoped and prayed that she was safe, very safe. If someone needed to be mad, that person should have been me because she was involved with my hubby!
"Where could she be? Please God let her be safe....."
I prayed silently.
