THE CO - WIVES
CHAPTER 33
John's (OCS) POV
Since I left James's mansion, I took some time off to relax. My superiors were quite understanding and they gave me a whole month to relax.
I planned a trip to the coast to chill over there and explore as well. I was happy and glad because all the culprits were either dead or behind bars. I was happy that I had accomplished my mission... A mission to ensure my subjects were safe. It has been six years since my wife died in a road accident. We were yet to get any kids and I found it too hard to move on.
One evening as I was having one for the road in one of the clubs, a familiar face caught my eyes. I watched keenly and I had no doubt he was the one. How on earth did he end up there? A man we were made to believe that he is dead! Did he just resurrect? The hospital!
Who paid them to lie to us?
The doctor?
Nurses?
They were surely gonna hear from me!
Endless questions were running through my mind.
Jeff!
Oh Jeff!
A cat with nine lives!
Since then, I made it my mission to follow him around. However, I couldn't do it on my own because he would have recognised me. I called an OCS based in coast and we met immediately. I told him about everything which had happened in the past months and he agreed to help me out. He connected me with one of the best detectives in his station and we were good to go.
The following day, Cliff, the detective accompanied me to the club.
Within no time, we saw Jeff enjoying his drinks in the company of three scantly dressed ladies. By the look of things, he was loaded. He had money. What did we expect anyway? He had extorted enough money from James's company when he was the head of finance.
Cliff and I watched them as they drowned their sorrows in alcohol. As Jeff rose up to go to the washrooms, cliff signalled one of the ladies who rushed to our table within no time. He whispered something into her ears and she got out of the bar. As Cliff rose up to follow her, he assured me that he knew whatever he was doing and exited too. I shifted from the table we had occupied and sat at the corner, where I could see Jeff's table clearly. You never know! Jeff might ask the ladies where the other lady went to and they might point at my table. He might plan to accost me and pap! My cover will be blown.
Another couple sat at the table cliff and I had initially occupied.
Minutes later, Jeff staggered back to his table. Thank God he never bothered to ask about the lost lady.
Some minutes later, Cliff came back and joined me at the table. Minutes later, the lady joined Jeff and the others at their table.
"What were you up to Cliff?"
I asked him curiously.
"Lemmie feed you in."
He said while grinning.
He explained to me how he bribed the lady with some money to make sure she wins over Jeff's heart and accompany him to his house or wherever he was spending the night.
She was supposed to learn everything about him, everything and tell Cliff all about it.
"You are such a genius detective... Congratulations."
I said while clapping.
"Careful John, you might attract attention."
"What if the lady double deals you and sells us out to Jeff?"
"That won't happen because I will trace her, plant a fake pistol on her and stand in court to prove how guilty she is, how dangerous she is and how happy the public will be after she is sentenced to death. In short, I will make sure she rots in jail!"
He was serious. He didn't look like the bluffing type. For once, I believed him.
We took our drinks at the same time watching Jeff and his ladies.....
Minutes later, Jeff and our lady rose up to leave. She was holding him by the waist as they went away. Cliff and I hi fived and continued drinking.
We drank to our fill and called it a night.
We went our separate ways and agreed to meet in my hotel room the following day.
All this time, I never bothered feeding James on the latest for fear of him blowing up things. However, we would communicate from time to time and I was glad he was doing perfectly fine.
Cliff came to my hotel room the following day.
By the look of things, he came bearing good news.
We exchanged pleasantries and got down to business.
"We are heading somewhere John..."
He began explaining.
"What have you found out?"
I was curious.
"The lady called me earlier today and told me everything about Jeff. He is armed. He is on a revenge mission. In his drunk mind, he told her about a company in Nairobi which he is fighting to change ownership. He has travelled back to the city already!Luckily, she recorded everything and she sent all the recordings to me."
"Great! That's great!"
I found myself clapping once again.
"You and this clapping of yours, anyway, what are we going to do?"
Cliff asked.
"Simple! We are flying to Nairobi today! That is if your schedule ain't tight."
"I have started this case and I will make sure I see it's end. Let's get going."
I packed my belongings as Cliff went to his house to pack some stuff.
Half an hour later, we met at the airport and boarded the next available flight to Nairobi.
*************************A month later, Jeff hadn't struck. But he had secured himself an accomplice whom at first I thought was Jackline but after doing investigations, I found out she was Jackline's twin sister Jannie.
I had to look for James to see if he could give me a clue or even a lead onto how Jackie got a twin and all I knew was that she had a bro but not a sis.
James and I met and he told me how he had fallen into Jannie's hands, how he almost proposed and married her, how she almost infected him with HIV, how he almost lost his mansion to her, how he almost lost Jackie because of his gullibility.
I had to involve him on whatever I was up to because I needed his help.
He was shocked to hear Jeff was still alive and ready to steal his company from him. Not that he cared for the company that much, after all he had several other companies. But he was ready to protect Jackie with all he had. We knew as long as Jannie and Jeff were working together, Jannie with her bitterness would want to revenge to Jackie as well.
He was game.....
