Chasing Life || Ashton Irwin

Chapter 3

I sat there in silence, waiting for someone to say something but they all just stared at me.

"Well, I got to school and I went to my locker and almost threw up.So, I just left. My parents didn't call in and they should have and maybe I should have told them but I didn't want them to worry about me." I frantically say.

"Scarlett, if you are sick, let us take care of you!" Luke says while picking me up from the couch. All the other boys follow behind him. While Luke was carrying me to my room, I fell in love with those blue eyes of his. I couldn't help but stare at his beautiful face. At this point, I was so confused with my feelings because I thought I had liked Ashton, but I guess, things change.

Eventually Luke gently places me on my bed and Ashton tucks me in. I could get used to this kind of treatment.

"I will go make you some soup," Michael tells me while walking out of the bedroom.

They are too sweet.

Luke and Calum leave the room and I am left with Ashton sitting at the edge of my bed.

"Penny for your thoughts?" I tell Ashton while playfully kicking him off the bed.

"You're lucky I can't hurt you," He laughs. "Hey, what's this?" He asks while standing up holding my book about cancer.

My heart is racing and I have to lie to him, "Oh, its for a project at school."

Ashton then sets the book down on my desk and sits next to me on the bed, looking at my eyes. As he was going in for a kiss, I stop him and tell him the truth. Yes, I am insane.

"ASH!" I yell. "I lied..." He looks at me confused. "That book isn't for school. I-I have cancer."

It was silent for a good two minutes. I wanted to lie to him, but I just couldn't lie to his cute face.

"Scarlett... how long has it been?" He asks while trying not to cry.

"It's been a few days. And hey, its okay, you can cry"

He starts sobbing into my shoulder, "What if I lose you? I can't! You're the reason that so many good things have happened to me."

I smile at that fact and look up to him saying, "I will get through this. I know I will. And hey, please don't tell anyone else. I will tell them when I am ready."

"But Scarlett..."

"Please" I beg.

He nods in agreement and hugs me, I could tell he didn't want to let go.

Michael walks in while Ashton was hugging me and he has my soup. "Oh wrong timing." He says.

I laugh, "No you are fine"

Michael sets the soup infront of me on the bed.

"Thank you boys." I smile.

I start eating my soup and soon enough all the boys leave and I could take a nap since I was so tired. Being tired for no reason was part of having cancer. It is fucking awful.

Today was the day of my bone marrow test and I was going in alone. This should be fun.

The taxi drops me off in front of the hospital and I pay them and then I slowly start to make my way in. Aunt Carol was there to greet me. My heart hurts just seeing her, but what she told me was true, she was one of the best doctors in the nation and she was doing this for free. I can't say no to that. She takes me in a room and lays me on a table where she will drill into my hip, pulling bone marrow out. I was going to be awake for the whole thing and boy, this was going to hurt like a bitch.

"You ready?" She asks while holding the drill.

I close my eyes and tell her yes and then I feel someone hold my hand. I look up to see Ashton, sitting there with me. We didn't say a word to eachother, just having his company was so much better than being by myself. I scream in pain and Ashton starts rubbing circles on my hand with his thumb. This to me, was soothing.

Finally, the test was done. This test was going to tell me what stage I am in.

"How did you not cry??" Ashton asks.

I smile, "I told you, I am strong."

I put on the rest of my clothes and Ashton helps me walk out of the hospital, since my hip was so sore. He sets me in the passenger seat and does not buckle my seat belt since that would hurt also.

I pull out my phone to see that I have a text from Luke.

Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to do something later today?

Sure! Sounds good to me.

"Ash, thank you for coming. How did you know that I had the appointment today though?"

"I heard you talking on the phone with her, remember?"

"Well thank you, I really did need someone there and I am glad it was you." I say while putting my hand on his while he drives.

He helps me walk inside and sets me on the couch. Ashton went to the kitchen and grabbed bottled water for the both of us and he sat down next to me.

After watching T.V for a bit he starts to get up, "Well, get some rest. If you ever need anything, you know how to contact me."

I said nothing. Instead, my lips met with his. We both looked at eachother as we pulled away. I could tell my cheeks were turning just as red as his. He didn't say anything about it, he just smiled and then left. I wondered if he wanted me to kiss him. I probably shouldn't have.

I continue watching T.V on the couch and then I hear a knock on the door.

"Come in!" I yell.

The door opens and I see Luke in his maroon snapback.

"Hey you!" Luke says while sitting on me.

"OWWWW" I yell in pain.

"Oh my gosh sorry what did I do?" He says while starting to panic.

"Nothing, I have just been really sore all day. Sorry!" I tell him.

"Don't be sorry, just tell me if you need anything!" Luke tells me while rubbing my back.

We sat there for quite a bit and then my phone goes off. It was my Aunt Carol. Oh goody, I just love talking to her.

I slowly get up from the couch with my phone,"Sorry, I need to take this."
