Chapter 35: Scratching the Lottery Ticket

The next morning was refreshing, my mum opened the curtains and kissed me on the forehead. I smiled as I stretched in my bed. 

"Honey, do you want to miss school today?" I shake my head and get out of the bed.

"I'll be fine. Plus, there's some things that I have to sort out." She nods and then leaves my room "But I should be fine right? I can't miss school anymore than I should."

I grab my clothes and head towards the bathroom and get ready for school. 

I look in the mirror and see small scratches in myself, and the black eye that Brett gave me. It finally had swollen up and now looked like a healing bruise. 

"I look terrible, maybe I can skip, but just collect my work, I can't afford to delay the school work anymore." I step out and head towards the kitchen seeing that breakfast is prepared.

"Mum, I think its better to skip, but I still have to heal up. Do you think we can get my school work?" She stops setting up the table and looks at me. 

"Did he do this?" I nod and she kiss it. 

"Ow.." She laughs.

"It will heal much better after that kiss." She guides me to a seat and I see that we are having radish soup, fried egg and a couple of side dishes to complete the set.

"Eat up, and I'll ring the school. Want to go straight away? Or later?" She inquires. 

"After breakfast." She walks over to me and hugs me from behind. 

After breakfast, I decided to help clean up. As I pull up my sleeves, I see the marks of the tight rope wrapped around my wrists. The feelings of fear and angst consume my thoughts.

"You're going to stay here forever! You're never leaving this place!"

"This is your home now, treat me with decent respect and maybe I will treat you better!" 

I drop the plate and the sound alarms me. 

"Damnit!" I grab the dust and pan and clean up the mess. 

"Honey? You okay?" I hear my mum. 

"Yeah. Just fine." I answer quickly.

I pick up the broken pieces and continue to clean, soon I was done and grabbing my school bag from the room. 

"Ready to go?" My mum asks as she grabs her keys. 

"Y-Yeah. I'll go get my bag." I rush for my bag and hear the horn from the car. 

I open the car knob and put my seat belt on. The trip wasn't too long and and my mum stopped at the front. 

"I'll meet you back in 10 minutes. If you need a hand ring me." She gives me a phone "New phone by the way..."

I nod and head towards the entrance. School was rather quiet at this hour, people were still at home rushing for school, and I realised now was the perfect time to discreetly grab my homework. 

I hum my way to the locker. 

"Lily?" I turn around and see Ally. 

"Ally!" I run up to her and hug her with all my strength "I missed you so much!"

We hug each other for a few moments and then let go. 

"I'm so glad you're safe. When I heard, I got all worried...but you're fine...did he hurt you?" I shake my head. 

"Just a few scratches..." She looks at my revealing wrists and scolds. 

"That looks bad. Please tell me you'll get that fixed up." She looks at me worryingly.
