Chapter Nineteen: Impossible

I wake up to find myself in my bed in the Lair, the only source of light coming from the lamp beside me.

I gave a small but tired smile as I looked around my room, something that I hadn't seen for over a day. Shell, it felt like months since I've even been in New York.

Me and Rosebud had managed to find camp before nightfall though, so I had been hoping to actually sleep for more then two hours. But as fate would have it, I only got that much time.

So I'm still pretty tired mentally, and... Wait, physically?? But didn't this body rest the whole time?

Hesitantly shrugging that strange fact off, I leapt off of my bed. For a few moments, the room blurred, and I let out a gasp of surprise as I lurched to the side.

It was like I was walking on water, about to fall beneath the surface. It feels like I haven't walked for weeks...?

But then I steadied myself, and my vision went back to normal. I stumbled over to the door, passing by the mirror and accidentally nudging it with my shoulder on my way by.

But then I froze in place, quickly looking back in it.

... I was wearing a Japanese bamboo hat, similar to the ones me and my brothers had worn on our quest with Usagi and Kintaro.

"Huh??" I hummed, confused.

But I fell asleep in the other realm with this on??

How the heck could I wake up with it in this realm? That hasn't happened before.

That's when I remembered my previous observation, something that I also now found beyond strange. I was sleeping the whole time in this realm, so I should be well rested in this body.

So why do I feel so... Tired?

* * *

I slowly walk into Donnie's lab, immediately spotting him sitting at his work desk. He was jotting down observations in a notebook, which was surrounded by vials of chemicals.

"Hey Donnie..." I greeted, wincing.

I prepared for him to whirl around, demanding why I was sleeping for so long, and why I passed out after claiming to hear something...

But instead he just sighed, turning to me with an annoyed expression on his face.

"Sorry Mikey, but I'm busy." He turned back in his chair, beginning to write more.

He didn't even ask me if I'm in pain or anything...?

I watched with confused eyes as he continued his experiments. He grabbed a vial of purple liquid, dumping it into a jar of orange goo.

He's acting like I've already had his ten daily checkups like usual when we get hurt...

Before I can do anything more, Donnie suddenly paused. He turned back to me, spinning his rolling chair forward a bit as he peered at my face.

"Mikey, are you okay? You're looking a little... Pale." He observed, tipping his head.

I looked down at my skin, trying to see what he was talking about. When I saw that my skin indeed was a paler color, I narrowed my eyes in confusion.

"I'll have to make you a new weapon belt soon, to. The leathers looked washed out." He shrugged, turning back to his work desk.

"I'm sure it's nothing, D! Just the lighting or something." I reassure. I gave him a small smile, even though he could no longer see me.

"Mhm..." He murmured, now fully concentrated on his experiment.

I slowly walked away, opening the doors. When I exited the lab, I immediately spotted Raph and Casey in the pit.

Raph was in a beanbag, reading a comic while patting Chompy on the head. Casey was simply staring at the TV, a blank expression on his face. He frowned, letting out a long sigh of boredom.

I walked to the edge of the pit, and neither of them even glanced at me.

"Guys, have I done anything strange these past couple days?" I asked, filled with curiosity as I awaited their answers.

They must say that I've slept for a very long time, and that I passed out after claiming to hear noises. Because that's all I've done in the past few days here...

Raph looked up, raising his eye ridges at me.

After a couple moments, he looked back down at his comic, flipping the page as he grumbled.

"What, you mean besides acting like a mindless zombie for the past couple days? Nah, you're a completely normal idiot." He growled.

Confused, I gave him a startled look. Does he mean-?

"Really...?" I questioned.

Casey looked over his shoulder, eyes lighting up. He must've realized that making fun of someone through story telling was not a boring thing.

"Dude, you've been totally out of it. More than usual at least. Glassy eyed, just plain weird. You stayed in your room most of the time, but occasionally came out to have pizza or something. You even almost tripped over Chompy, right next to Raph! We thought you were becoming more crazy or somethin'." Casey smirked, before looking back to the TV.

"You must've already known that, though." He dully finished, sounding bored again.

Does he mean to say I was AWAKE in this realm?! But that's impossible!

It didn't happen before, and now they're suddenly talking about me acting all distant and zombie-like here, during the time that I'm supposed even supposed be awake?

I don't know what's happening, but I know that something is going wrong.

First I woke up with my hat still on, feeling tired and looking not at all well rested.

Then my vision blurred for a bit, and I started feeling like walking and everything was weird, as if I hadn't used my legs for weeks.

And now, I've learned that I've apparently been awake here the whole time.

What is going on???
