Chapter Thirty-One: City of Light

Before we had left Usagi's realm, he had given me something that would 'help in the future'. Since we had to leave, I never got the opportunity to ask him what he meant... But now I understood.

Clenching my jaw, I held up the stunning object. It was a beautiful bronze necklace, a glowing orange key dangling from the ancient chain...

Mikey's POV...

Letting out a startled gasp, I lurched upwards, panting for breath.

I looked around our makeshift camp, trying to find what had awoken me so suddenly; but nothing seemed to be out of place.

So why do I feel like something important happened...?

I hesitantly looked around, notching the others laying around the slowly fading fire. Usagi was a dozen feet away, keeping watch as we rested and slept some more.

Deciding that the feeling must've just been my imagination, I shrugged it off, instead standing up and dusting off my hands. A flash of pain went through my back, and I sucked in a deep breath, wincing in discomfort.

"Michelangelo? Are you well?" Usagi's voice startled me, having almost forgotten he was awake. I turned to him, quickly nodding in response.

I haven't told anyone here about my wings yet. I don't know why, but it feels like I shouldn't do so for at least a little while longer. However, the prophecy called me a 'winged warrior'...

Maybe they think it means something else?

"Yeah, I'm just a bit tired, but I'm ready to go!" I grinned, glancing over at Karasu, Rosebud, and Doku, who had woken up at the sound of our voices.

I debated on using the excuse of going to the woods to 'go to the bathroom', so that I could in reality instead shift and stretch my wings, but decided that we needed to hurry along.

So off we went, trekking through the forest that marked the edge of the City of Light.

* * *

After fifteen minutes of walking, we finally neared the edge of the woods. Through the last of the trees, I could catch glimpses of what seemed to be glowing patches of bright white and crystal blue.

"This is going to be so much fun! I've always wanted to go here!~" Rosebud grinned, ears perking up in excitement.

Before any of us- including a moody Karasu- could answer her, a soft thump came from behind us.

"Who goes there?!" A sharp voice demanded, making us stiffen.

As one, we all turned around, and my eyes widened in surprise at the sight of the person before us. He's a human??

"Human?? With plastic elf ears? Woah!" I grinned, hopping forward.

I stretch my hand forward to touch the head accessory of the person, in awe of his glistening white hair and blue and silver armor.

But Usagi hurried forward, pressing his arm against my plastron and shaking his head.

And as I watched, the 'human'- a stern expression on his face- pulled on the tips of both of his ears... Proving that they were indeed real as ever, and connected to his head.

"Not fake." He gently said, voice piercing the air like ice.

"Ohhhhh..." I mutter, wincing in embarrassment. I awkwardly rubbed the back of my neck, nervously laughing.

"So you're an elf?? The legends are true then!" Rosebud happily lashed her tail, then quickly sinking down and bowing her head.

Usagi followed the gesture, and even Doku and Karasu's eyes turned solemn with respect. Usagi then stepped forward, sheathing his sword and pressing his hands together.

"Great Warrior Elf, we have come from far, with the winged warrior from the ancient prophecy." He stepped to the side, and suddenly, all eyes were once again on me.

I cringed at the fancy sounding title given to me- personally feeling that 'the best ninja and pizza king ever' suited me much better.

The elf, face formerly one of gathered blankness, suddenly was decorated with a small smile. At the same moment, it was as if light burst into our minds; I felt a tidal wave of peace overcome me, quickly followed by calm determination.

"Ah, the Prophecy of Kuda. My name is Sariku; and I deeply apologize for not at first recognizing you." He gracefully straightened his back, his long hair swaying in the breeze.

"It's fine elf dude!" I grinned, giving him a cheesy thumbs up.

Sariku once again smiled softly, taking a careful step forward. Although I would usually back away from strangers in another realm, since most of the time it felt like they were judging me as a possible enemy, I knew that we could trust this person.

And so then, with a nod of respect, he clasped a pale hand on my shoulder.

"Welcome winged warrior, and your loyal friends, to Samaranth- the City of Light, and home of my kind."
