A/N: Hey, I just wanted to say, I've never played or seen a play through of any Fire Emblem game, so... I'm just gonna use knights and Zelda monsters as enemies because I don't know any enemies in Fire Emblem, just a heads up. Enjoy!

The Battle for Altea: prologue
"Marth, be careful, if we lose you, Altea's doomed," Ike warned. They watched smoke coming from the town, however, there was no fire. The trio of men gritted their teeth, getting angrier at the destruction in front of them.
"I know, Ike. You will join me to get the castle back, Roy, I assume you can handle the field yourself?" Marth asked. Roy hesitated before nodding quickly. Marth nodded too and he and Ike rode to the town.
They looked for any survivors, but all they found were bodies. However, there weren't many. So they assumed the best: most of the citizens had been able to evacuate before tragedy struck. Marth unsheathed his sword when he heard a small crunch.
"Prince Marth?" Marth looked to his right. There stood a middle-aged woman, and she was thankfully not injured. She started shaking a lot when she saw him though.
"You're the blacksmith's wife, correct?" Marth said as he sheathed his sword and walked to her. She nodded. She looked down as tears fell down her cheeks. Marth put his hand on her shoulder, and gave her a smile. The woman gasped and slapped his hand away. She took out a dagger and pointed it down at Marth. She was about to stab him in the head, but was stopped by Ike. She struggled against the grip of his arm on hers, as tears flowed from her eyes.
"Let me kill him! He did this!" The woman yelled. Marth looked up at Ike with a raised eyebrow.
"What do you mean?" Ike asked.
"He killed my husband! He burned this town!" She yelled. Then she gasped. She glared at Ike and dug the knife in his arm. Ike yelled in pain and moved away.
"Ike!" Marth yelled.
"You two, and Lord Roy... you three did this!" She went for another stab to Ike, but suddenly stopped. She dropped the knife and her arms fell to the side. She let out a small breath before falling on her side.
Marth stood behind her with the hilt of his sword pointed to where her head would've been if she were still standing. Marth sheathed his sword and stepped in front of her. He knelt in front of her and checked if she was still breathing. He sighed in relief when he felt her breathing normally, as well as her heart beat being normal. He stood up and Ike walked to him, griping his forearm.
"You good?" Marth asked.
Ike nodded. "You shouldn't have knocked her out, we could've calmed her down and she could've told us what happened."
"If I hadn't, she might've killed you," Marth said. He looked at the town, it was completely destroyed. He narrowed his eyes. "But why would she say we did this?"
"Mother!" They turned around to see a girl, around fifteen, run to them. She shoved them out of the way and crouched in front of the woman. "You monsters! What did you do?! Why are you doing this?!"
"Look, we don't who you're talking about, but we're the real deal," Ike said.
"Yeah, that's what they said, and look how Altea is now!" The girl yelled.
Marth sighed. He knelt down in front of her and put his hand on her shoulder. "Look, we're really sorry we had to knock out your mom, but she was about to kill my buddy Ike, I couldn't just-"
"Your eyes," she said quietly. Marth raised an eyebrow. "They're not red."
"Did the ones who attacked have red eyes?" Marth asked.
"Yes, and yours are blue, so you are the real thing!" The girl bowed her head. "I'm Sam, I'm sorry for my rudeness, Your Highness."
Marth gave her a small smile. "It's nothing, don't worry, now, if you don't mind, could you tell us what happened?" Sam nodded and started explaining her story.
"Marth, Ike, and, Roy" had come to Altea the day before. Some townsfolk had noticed their eye color seemed different, so they asked them about it. They assured them they were the real thing, and that they were just contact lenses. They were, somewhat pleased with their answer and they returned to their normal life. Then at night, monsters and knights started attacking the town, lighting almost everything on fire. They were able to put the flames with the help of a few mages, but there were too many monsters, so they evacuated to nearby kingdoms or barricaded themselves in their homes.
Sam's family stayed in their homes. Their father had a save room underground, so she, her mother, and her two older brothers hid there. Her father stayed in their house to make sure no one got to them. They heard the front door open, and three people come in. Her dad yelled something at them, then they heard the three chuckle.
Her father yelled at them, but there was a sudden silence then. They heard steps come closer to the entrance to the save room. The door opened, and "Marth, Ike, and Roy" were smirking at them. It looked like "Ike" was holding something, than he showed it do them. It was the body of her father, with his throat slit open. Sam and her mother had screamed, while her brothers had stood in front of them and gotten their swords out. "Marth" laughed, then launched himself at her oldest brother, piercing his sword through his stomach. Her mother catched him thankful he wasn't dead, while her other brother went to attack "Marth," but he had suddenly vanished. The three impostors stood at the door, smirking. "Marth and Ike's" skin had turned dark and their hair was black and red, and their armor was black. "Roy" had his normal skin tone, but his eyes were red and his armor was black. They faded away, leaving her father's already decomposing body behind.
As Sam finished her story, Marth couldn't help but wonder: were they the same as Dark Link? He had seen him through the hidden cameras, and he looked just like Link except for his colors scheme. And according to Sam, the impostors looked just like them. It would only make sense.
"Sam, I'm really sorry you had to go through that. We promise to make things right and beat them," Marth assured. Sam nodded and took his hand.
"If you need any medical supplies, come to my house and we'll help! The youngest of my older brothers studied medicine, so he can help you guys," Sam said. Marth thanked her and told her to go back home. She nodded and carried her mom back. She wished them luck and reminded them to come if they needed help.
Marth sighed. He unsheathed his sword, as did Ike. Ready for battle, they marched forward to the castle.
