Chapter 22

The Smashers

Peach: Guys, war's starting

Marth: Yeah...

Roy: I don't wanna lose you guys!

Ike: Me neither

Zelda: I've already informed Impa of the situation, we're beginning preparations tomorrow

Marth: Same here, I alerted my army

Lucina: Yeah

Peach: I know this sounds mean to my own people, but, toads are hopeless. However, I did alert them as well

Time: I have an idea

Time: Since this will probably be our last night of peace for a while, how about we just spend it with each other? You know, have fun, play games, watch movies

Robin: I'd really like that

Zelda: I volunteer my house

Samus: Haha, thanks Zel

Link: Yeah... I can't help but feel a little sad actually

Link: It's our last moment of peace

Pit: Yeah, but that's why we're doing this! To enjoy ourselves, to forget about all our worries, at least for one night

Lucina: That was very wise there Pit

Daisy: I'm already walking to your house, Zel

Time: Me and Link are already at her house

Peach: Speaking of Zelda and Link, I heard from a little birdie you're together now~?

Ike: Geez, you get dumped and get a girlfriend on the same day? You're quick man

Link: It's not my fault Midna broke up with me!

Zelda: Link shut up

Link: Aye

Samus: Alright, lovebirds, we'll meet you there!

"No, no, NO! DAMMIT, DAMMIT, DAMMIT LINK!" Roy yelled.

"Looks like the better ARMS boy is me," Link smirked.

"Oh fuck you!"

"I'd rather you'd not."

"THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEAN, YOU DIRTY MINDED SON OF A BITCH."

"Calm down now, you too," Marth said. "We've been playing for a while, I think it's time we go to sleep."

"I agree, I'll get some blankets," Zelda said. She walked to a closet upstairs and got some blankets and pillows. It was hard to carry them all, so she just made two trips. She gave each person a blanket and a pillow, then she sat next to Link, with Sapphire sitting by her side. She frowned at her. She already found a new family for her, and they were coming early the next morning. They did agree to give her back though, so at least it wasn't a permanent goodbye.

"Good night everybody, see all tomorrow," Marth smiled.

"Night," They all said. Zelda laid back on the floor, laying on her back. She had on hand on Sapphire's head, while the she held Link's hand with the other. Link stared at her with worry and sadness. He and Time also found a new home for Lucy, however, they decided Time would get to keep her once they moved out.

Once everyone else was asleep, Link hugged Zelda tightly and comforted her. "You okay?"

"No," Zelda whispered.

"Me either," Link whispered back.

"Link?"

"Yeah?"

"I'm scared." Zelda turned fully to Link and clutched onto his shirt. "I'm so scared, Link. I'm scared of what's to come. I'm scared of losing my land, I'm scared of losing my people, I'm scared of losing my friends," Zelda looked at Link, "I'm scared of losing you!" Link frowned and hugged her tighter and closer to his chest as she softly sobbed into it.

"It's okay, I'm scared too," Link said. "I'm scared of losing my family, my friends, my home, and most importantly you!" Link raised her chin with his finger, making her face him. "But that fear is what's keeping me going forwards, I don't want any of that to happen, which is why I'll keep fighting to prevent that. I won't let anyone hurt my family and home. I won't let anyone hurt you or everyone else. I promise to protect you, I won't let anyone hurt you, even if it means I have to die for it."

"But I don't want you to die!" Zelda sobbed. "That's the opposite of what I want! Don't you understand?" Zelda put her hands on Link's cheeks and put their foreheads together. "I don't want to lose you! Even if we don't end up together in the end, I want you to be alive! I want you to live! You think I care if I get hurt? I can survive that, but I would never forgive myself if you sacrificed yourself for me."

"Zelda..."

"Link, please," Zelda kissed him deeply, then parted. "Just stay alive!"

"Zelda I..."

"And if you do end up sacrificing yourself, then," Zelda paused. "Then let it be for the greater good of everyone! Not just for me, and I promise to do the same."

Link's eyes widen as he started to tear up. He held her tight and softly whispered into her ear, "Zelda, I'm so sorry. You've suffered so much these past few weeks, with your fathers death, me and Midna, getting kidnapped, and now war? I'm so sorry, I promise to make you happy, now and when all of this over," Link looked down at her and she looked up at him, "and if that's what'll make you happy, I promise to sacrifice myself only for the greater good." He put his hand on her cheek and wiped her tears with his thumb.

Zelda gave him a small smile. "Thank you, Link." Link leaned in and kissed her. They parted and Zelda buried her head in his chest while Link put his arms around her protectively.

"I love you, Zelda."

"I love you too, Link."
