"Hey," Hunter greeted as he wrapped his arm on top of my shoulders.
"Hi..." I replied quietly.
We were on our way to the guild to have one final meeting with the masters, before we all headed off today.
"Are you okay?" He asked, his voice laced with worry.
"I'm fine, I just couldn't sleep last night. I don't think I'm ready." Images of that night flashed in my mind as I spoke.
He nodded, "Ada, I'll always be here for you, you have nothing to worry about."
We continued to make our way to the guild as our conversation grew.
———
We walked into the guild like normal, walking over to our friends and sat waiting for Master Kinn and Master Sholet. Only them, I was most definitely not waiting for the Golden Panthers.
It took a good 5 minute wait before they entered the guild hall.
Both masters were giving us the information needed and the Do's and Don'ts for the mission.
~Time Skip cause I'm too lazy to write it all~
I went home to pack some necessities, and made my way back to the guild hall.
———
We all stood outside the Phoenix Talon guild hall.
"Before we start this mission, I just want to say, I'm not going to tolerate rudeness or stupidity. The underworld is a lot more dangerous than you think. I don't want any whining and I don't want any smart ass comments. If any of you decide to piss me off, I won't think twice about sending you back. Imagine how disappointed your master would be and how your reputation would be affected, if that were to occur. Are we clear?" I said.
They all nodded their heads.
We all made our way to the train station. Once we got settled on the train, I decided to rest. It's only a four hour train ride, plus a little extra rest never hurt anybody.
———
We got off the train at the little town of Regnum Portas, which means 'Kingdom of gates'. They are a lovely community of sorcerers, that is if you are welcome. If you aren't then... you get the idea.
We walked past a cheerful area of the town, on the way to their leader.
I signalled for then to stop as we stood outside the grandest building in this town.
"Who are you and what business do you have here," a voice boomed.
We looked to see guards approaching us from the main entrance.
I quickly turned around and said, "don't do anything stupid, I've got this."
I faced the guards again.
"I am Adaline. My friends and I would like the leader's permission to cross through the devils portal. We have been given a mission that requires we do so."
I looked up to see their leader, Sanctus, walking towards us. The guards bowed as he passed them.
I kneeled down in respect. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the rest of Phoenix Talon kneeling. Of course the panthers don't.
"Rise children. I'm not important enough to have you kneel." He said.
We arose from the ground and I came face to face with their leader. "Sir, will you allow us passage through the devils portal?"
It took him a bit to finally answer. "I give you my blessing, but you must be extra careful. No mere human who has entered that portal has come back as themselves."
I nod in understanding. "I can't say much for them" I pointed to the group behind me, "but I know I'm not a mere human, not anymore"
Instead of giving a reply he lead us to our desired destination.
I rose my head I saw we were in a run down part of the town.
"Please be careful, the last time someone wanted this portal opened, it was used for evil. They attacked us, hence the damage."
"We won't let anything like that happen. You have my word." I said sternly.
I gazed down to see markings on the ground.
"I can open it," I said.
He took a step back. "Only those with demon blood can open this portal."
"I know"
I bent down touching the engraved words on the ground.
It read ਅੰਡਰਵਰਲਡ ਗੇਟਵੇ.
Which when translated means underworld gateway.
I turn back to the group. Hunter and Lillian nodded.
I took ahold of my necklace. I focused on my transformation. A wave of red, orange and yellow emitted from the red pendant on my necklace. Making my body glow.
A blinding light took over my eyesight and probably every one else's as well.
As the brightness faded my appearance had changed.
I had maroon horns, and a maroon tail with an arrow head shape at the end. My eyes were blood red and my hair was now raven black and to my knees. My feet were shaped as if I had worn six inch stilettos my entire life, and because of that I appeared taller.
I didn't bother looking at everyone's expressions.
"da mihi putei abyssi in mortuorum incoluisse mansione" I chanted.
The ground shook. A crack formed along the markings. The crack started to open, with a bright white light emitting from it.
"So, who's going first?"
