Chapter 13: The New Leader

We stayed in the lake all day. A few times I would feel Lucas' gaze from the tree line but I ignored it. I let the thought of John slip my mind when I surfaced. He could be anywhere plotting my death
Its already bad he raped me. I began to grow sleepy and began to sink. I fought to stay awake but my body refused.

"Emma!" a muffled voice shouted as my head went underwater. I saw a figure dive in the water as my eyes closed.

Lucas' point of view

I stayed in the trees and watched them as they enjoyed the water. I was dispointed when she Wasnt my mate. It must be Deacon or some stranger. I see the way they help each other. It wont be surprised but it will hurt. I still love her even if she Wasnt my mate. Her beautiful hair was slicked back when she came up. I could tell she felt my presence but something else was bothering her. Her eyes closed for a mere second before she shot them open.

Something's wrong.

No shit Luke

I began to walk towards the water. Her beautiful hazel eyes locked on me for a split second before her body drifted under water. I ran faster, my wolf was begging me to reach her on time. I heard Dominic yell her name right before I dived in the water. Her body was a faint image as she layed on the floor. I swam down to her body as my lungs burned. I picked her body up and swam to the surface.

"Fuck!" i coughed as I lifted her onto my back. Dominic jogged in and helped me out the water. I laid her on the sand and check for a pulse.

"No dammit! Step back!" the rest of them stepped back as the girls began to cry. I placed my hands over her chest and pushed down.

"EMMA!" I plugged her nose and blew air into her mouth. Nothing.

"Emma please!" my wolf whimpered. I repeated the process over and over as my tears fell onto her toned body.

"Lucas stop. She is gone." James said grabbing my shoulder.

"NO! I JUST HAVE TO KEEP TRYING!" I pushed harder until I felt her body jerk. She coughed rapidly as I sit her up. He face was pale and her eyes were darker than the midnight sky. She smiled instantly making me smile.

"You're ok." I sighed in relief. She went to speak but turned around and threw up a mixture of blood and water. Black lines began to appear on her back making her cry.

"What is happening to her James!?"

"I dont know." she stopped puking but continued to sob. She went to reach for her bleeding back but I put my hands over hers preventing her.

"Dont touch it. Its ok." she nodded while I wipe her tears away. James went to pick her up but Luke growled at him.

My mate. Mine.

"She is my sister Luke." I nodded telling Luke to back down. James slowly picked her up as she continued to moan and cry. I changed into my wolf form and follow James as he carried her trembling body to the house. I craved to touch her but I would put her in too much pain. I watched as she squirmed with every breath she took. Luke whimpered and nudged James to walk faster.

"Im walking as fast as I can man. I dont wanna hurt her." we reached the back yard and he placed her body on the bed. She cried harder as theblack things in her back grew longer.

"Lucas it hurts!" she screamed. Blood continued to ooze out her back. A thought hit me and I changed to human form.

"James she is growing her wings." he tossed me basketball shorts and went to collect the rest of our friends.

"It'll be over soon angel." she nods and squirms. I hoist her onto my torso and cradle her tiny body. She placed her hands on my shoulders and dragged them down my chest. I hissed when he nails snagged my skin.
