The last week of classes was a blur. With test, after test, after test, Iris felt like she couldn't even breathe properly. But that wasn't that bad, actually. After the buzz of winning the Quidditch Cup died down, Iris realized Daniel was avoiding her more and more. He was also pulling away from Helen. Or maybe that was the girl's doing. It'd be more logical... She had always been in love with the Summers kid and after he had almost kissed Iris, maybe she got mad and decided to take a time for herself.
Also, Camilla and Dorcas had a disagreement a few days before and now the two of them were petty about it, refusing to apologize to one another. They hadn't broken up and Iris was sure that wouldn't be the case. That was the only reason why she hadn't stepped up to help. That and another minor fact... Another minor fact that also had her thanking the amount of tests they were having for the past few days: Remus.
During the party of celebration in the Hufflepuff common room almost three weeks before, Iris had realized – no, she already knew that; she just had come to terms – that she was still in love with the Gryffindor boy. Even after he broke up with her, even after he called her a mistake... She still found herself longing for him more often than not. And after the whole Daniel Summers situation... She was sure. She loved him.
The problem was that she didn't know if he loved her. Actually, she was pretty sure he did. She wasn't sure if he would accept her back if she asked. If she apologized, if she promised to fight for him... Would he let her? Or would he push her away again?
"Hey, Iris? Are you listening?"
At the voice of her best friend, Iris snapped back to reality from her thoughts.
"No. Sorry. What did you say?" She asked.
In front of her, in the Hufflepuff table during dinner, Dorcas giggled slightly, before nodding her head toward Camilla who was sat beside her with an arm over her shoulder.
"I said we fixed it." She repeated, probably referring to the problem they had between them.
Were they talking about it for too long and Iris missed the whole thing, too absorbed in her own thoughts? Probably. Either way, she smiled.
"That's great, girls. Really." She nodded. "I'm happy for you."
The two girlfriends smiled at their best friend before falling into conversation with each other again. Iris didn't mind. She was focused in something else entirely at the moment.
Not too long after she finished her dinner, she noticed the four boys she had her eyes on the whole night getting up from their table. Gathering every ounce of courage she possessed, Iris got up from her place and picked up her bag. Camilla and Dorcas turned to face her.
"Where are you going?" The Latina asked.
"I have to fix something." She responded. "It won't take long, though."
"We wait for you at the common room?" Dorcas frowned.
"Hum... I... I think so."
"Irie..."
"Sorry." The red headed interrupted Camilla. "I have to go."
And with that, she threw her bag over her shoulder and dashed out of the Great Hall, running a little bit to catch up with the so-called Marauders. She turned a corner just in time to see them laughing at something as usual by the steps that would take them to the Gryffindor Tower. Before they could move too far from her, though, she decided to make herself known.
