Chapter 9: Partners
***************Sophie**************
Sophie walked into the living room of Everglen and smiled. Tonight was the night, the night that they personally welcome their guests and new members of the black swan. She went through the front door and to the garden. She sat down on a bench right next to a lake, where a male and female moonlark were swimming in the water, their tail feathers shimmering. The decorations were already up and a huge table was set out. Fountains spewed many colours and the grassy area was the best place for a dance. There were dances at the Forbidden Cities, called Prom. But she never went to it. Who would want to go to prom with a wicked smart, freakish twelve year old senior? Sophie snapped out of her trance when she realized she wasn't alone. Fitz melted out of the shadows next to her, smiling from head to toe.
"Hey Sophie."
"Fitz!" Sophie gasped, clutching her chest as she gulped in breaths. "I almost Inflicted you!!"
Fitz laughed, sitting down on the bench next to her. "That would have been a problem."
"And why is that?"
Fitz stared straight into her eyes. Sophie tired not to look away. She always seemed to get so lost in those handsome teal eyes.
"Because I have a question to ask you."
Sophie blinked a couple times, trying to say the right words without messing up, but the eyes were too much. "Wh... What?"
Fitz smiled his movie star smile and swept his hair back with his hand. "Well I was wondering if..." he glanced down. Then he looked up behind her and grabbed a white flower from a bush. He looked back at her, snapped off part of the stem, and put it behind her ear. "I was wondering if you would like to be my partner for the dance tonight," he said, bringing his hand down on top of her hand gently.
"Oh Fitz... I... I would love to," Sophie smiled taking his hand and squeezing it.
Fitz smiled and the two stood up, and walked back to the house.
***************Keefe***************
"Keefe calm down you got this man," Elvan told him.
Keefe was pacing in their room. "What if she says no!"
Elvan looked at Keefe with his usual "seriously" stare. "Would you like me to read her mind?"
"You can't. You can only transmit," Keefe sat down on the bed.
There was a knock on the door and Fitz came through, holding Sophie's hand. "Hey just wanted to check up on you guys. Do you have your partners?" Fitz asked, closing the door.
"No..." Elvan looked at Keefe who was glaring at Sophie and Fitz's hands. They must have sensed his anger because they immediately untwined their fingers. Fitz coughed.
"Well Biana is still free as far as I know. Just don't go for Stina..." Fitz said, chuckling half-heartedly.
"Aren't the girls going to Atlantis to buy their dresses?" Keefe asked.
Sophie nodded. "We are but we will be back within an hour to get ready for the dance." She looked over at Fitz and he smiled.
Keefe rolled his eyes. "I have no idea who to ask."
