They are being nice today, which scares me, when they are nice that means father will be angry later and need a punching bag, me. We eat in silence until mother breaks it, speaking with agitation behind her voice.
"I want another baby, Steven" She spoke, more of a demand
"I already told you, one is enough" Father said slamming his fist down on the table
"Steven!" Mother yelled and continued "One child isn't enough when you are never home and we need another boy in this house, no matter how built you made our daughter"
Mother was different then father, when he wasn't home she would be nice and make me lunch and we would have fun, every night, ten minutes before father gets home mother has me rush to my room so father doesn't know.
"Fine Clara, you win. We'll have another child, but if it's a daughter again I'm sending it away." Father said giving in, only they were allowed to call each other by their real names, I wasn't.
They never called me daughter though, it was always my first name, Alice. They didn't give me a middle or last name either, they didn't think I deserved the respect, they say that they give me respect by letting me go to school. This is why I'm glad it's starting soon.
The night before school started was the same as any other night; I was locked in the cellar, which this time wasn't bad at all. My mother bought me a book bag and a binder with paper, a folder, a notebook, two pencils, one red and blue pen, and a small pencil case. Luckily the small pencil case came with a lock and key, I place the money in the pencil case then everything else. I wake up to my mother shaking me awake, the first day of school and I have a busted lip, perfect.
