I grab my bag, put on my shoes, and walk out to the bus stop where my best friend Sadie was waiting for me. She had a huge smile on her face; she ran up to me and hugged me. Last night I found over seven hundred dollars in my mother's purse with a note on it saying for me to take it and run.

It's my senior year in high school; my black cat sleeps soundly in my bag. "Sadie, can I stay with you for a while?" I ask terrified of the answer.

"How long is a while?" she countered

"Three weeks at most so I can get an apartment, I have the money. And you can move in with me."

"How much do you have?"

The thing about Sadie is she turns 18 half way through the school year, I turned 18 before school started; I lean and whisper in her ear "Over a thousand on me right now"

She gasps "Alice!"

"Sadie, shh"

"Why do you have it?"

"I'll explain when we get home, I promise" As I finish my sentence the bus arrives to pick us all up to take us to school.

Sadie and I have been friends since elementary school; we have always had the same classes, sat in the same seat on the bus. Even this year, our schedules are the exact same. We're sitting on the bus talking about what we are going to do after school, the whole ride I feel like someone is staring at me but I brush it off as first day jitters.

We walk into the building and head to our lockers, I still feel like someone is looking at me but when I turn I don't see anyone. I brush it off again and get my books for my first four classes, I tell Sadie that I'll catch up to her and she leaves me to head to class; that's when Brianna shows up. Bri is my bully from like all the years I had school, so all of them.

"Hey Alice, got my jacket I see" She's looking into my locker at my favorite jacket; I shut my locker which makes Bri jump.

"No, it's not Brianna, leave me alone" I say with annoyance behind my voice.

"Oh, I think it is" Bri says trying to stand her ground

"Well, then fight me for it, unless you're scared" I've never challenged her, but I am today.

"Fine" Bri replies taking a swing and connecting with my mouth, now I'm really pissed; my mouth is bleeding and I'm tired of being pushed around by her.

I get my balance back and look at her and ask "That all you got bitch?"

Bri takes another swing, this time I'm ready. I grab her hand and then the side of her head and slam it against a locker, then shove her to the floor. I see blood on my hands, I'm sure I broke her jaw but I don't care. She looks at me shocked, and scared.

"Leave me alone Brianna" I say as I turn and walk away, blood dripping from my hands.
