Chapter 6: Date night

"I want to ask you out" Derek says as he catches up with Meredith in the hallway.

"You what?" Meredith laughs and turns around to face him.

"You, Me, Dinner, Tonight, 8 o'clock" he says. Meredith hesitates for a brief moment before she answers.

"Okay" she says as her phone starts to ring. "Gotta take this, see ya" she turns on her heel and walks away. She doesn't even look at the number because she knows who's calling her and she declines the call.

Lexie is sitting in the bleachers. It's the only place where she can eat without being interrupted by her roommate. The football team is practicing on the field.

"Watching me practice?" A voice says. Lexie looks up and sees a tall guy walking.

"Eh no no I mean yeah but not you specifically" she stutters.

"Just kidding" the guy says. "Mark Sloan" he says.

"Lexie, Lexie Grey" She answers.

"Grey as in Ellis Grey?" He asks.

"No, she is my sisters mother, Meredith Grey"

"Your sister is Meredith?" He says shocked.

"Yeah, we have the same father" Lexie says and looks down at the ground.

"So Derek slept with a surgical royalty descendant, nice!" Mark mumbles.

"They what?!" Lexie says. Mark freezes as he realise Meredith didn't tell her. He didn't mean to tell her either, he thought he was a good whisperer but apparently not. "Meredith slept with DEREK?!" Lexie yells.

"I think I should go" He says and walks away.

"Don't you dare walk away from me MARK SLOAN" she screams and Mark just keeps walking.

Alex, Cristina, April and Jackson is sitting in the cafeteria when Meredith walks up to them and slams her tray on the table.

"Derek asked me ou" she says. Jackson chokes on his food.

"I didn't even know you were a thing" he says.

"We're not" she answers.

"Mhm?" Cristina says and gives Meredith a 'I don't believe you' look.

"Well at least he has balls, Karev has been trying to ask out Jo all day but he is to chicken!" Jackson laughs.

"Shut up" Ales says. Cristina is also laughing know but she stops when she sees a furious Lexie headed to their table.

"Hurricane Lexie on the way" Cristina says.

"YOU SLEPT WITH DEREK SHEPHERD! She yells for the whole cafeteria to hear.

"Keep it down Lex" Meredith says. Lexie sits down besides her still looking like she will boil over any minute.

"Why the hell didn't you tell me?" She says. "I had to hear it from Mark Sloan"

"Wait you hangout with Mark?" Meredith asks.

"That's not important"

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you Lex, It just wasn't a big deal"

"Fine" Lexie says but you can tell she isn't over it.

It's 7:30 pm and Meredith is getting ready for her date with Derek. For the past hour she's just been sitting on her bed doing nothing until Cristina finally dug out a nice dress for her to wear to her date. It is a tight black strapless dress. To that she is going to wear black stiletto shoes. Cristina and Alex is playing chess in Cristinas bed.

"How do I look?" Meredith asks and spins around in her dress. Alex and Cristina looks up at her.

"Perfect" Cristina says.

"Not too shabby" Alex says. "I'd sleep with you if I wear Derek"

"You sleep with everyone" Meredith says.

"True" Alex admits.

A little while later Derek picks her up. They walk to the park outside of campus.

"When are we there?" Meredith asks. "And by the way why do you have a basket?

"Now" Derek says and puts a blanket on the ground. "We are having a picnic"

"It's lovely out here in the night," she says and sits down on the blanket. Derek put out the food he has in the basket. It's a lasagna and Tequila. They start to dig in immediately.

"The lasagne was really good," Meredith says.

"It's my mother's recipe"

"I think we should just talk tonight," Meredith says. "I don't really know anything about you"

"Okay," Derek says. "I come from New York. I have four younger sisters Amelia, Kathleen, Liz, and Nancy. I want to be a neurosurgeon. My dad died when I was a kid. Your turn"

"Like I said when we met, I don't have a story" Meredith answers and takes a sip of her tequila.

For the next hours, they just talk until they realize they have to go back to their dorms. They walk hand in hand back.

"It's about time you came back, I was starting to get worried about you Meredith," a woman says as they walk through the common room.

"Hi mother"
