Chap 13

Miguel and Maria walk on stage and start getting nervous. Someone in the audience even says to bring back another contestant. Maria looks to Hector who shakes and motion for a grito. Nodding, Maria turns to Miguel and they take a deal breath. After yelling, they start playing. Miguel strums the guitar as Maria sings. They get into the song and lose all nervousness. On the guitar solo, Dante and Pepe pull Hector on stage with the two kids. Maria laughs as Hector starts to dance.
"Not so bad for a dead guy." Maria jokes. Hector playfully glares at her.
"Not so bad yourself gordito. Eso!" Hector then starts to sing along with Maria. Miguel even joins in. The three of the sing in perfect harmony that they don't see Miguel's family enter the Plaza. Once the song is over, Hector turns to the two kids.
"Hey, you did good. I'm proud of you. Eso!" Hector throws his hands in the air, Maria and Miguel doing the same. That is until the see Miguel's family. Miguel grabs Hector's hand and they start to run off.
"Hey, where are you going?" Hector asks.
"We gotta get outta here!" Miguel shouts, still pulling into vectors hand.
"What, are you crazy? We're about to win this thing!" Vectors thoughts get interrupted when the same woman who announced them started talking into the Mic.
"Damas y caballeros, I have an emergency announcement. Please be on the look out for a living boy, and girl. They answer to the name of Miguel y Maria." Hector squints his eyes in confusion as she continues. "Earlier tonight, they ran away from their family. They just want to send them back to the land of the living."
"Wait, wait, wait, you said De la Cruz was your only family. The only person who could send you home." Hector turned to Miguel.
"I do have other family..."
"You could've taken my picture back this whole time!?" Hector yells.
"But they hate music, I need a musicians blessing." Miguel tries to argue.
"You lied to me!"
"Oh you're one to talk." Miguel glares.
"Look at me. I'm being forgotten, Miguel. I don't even know if in gonna last the night. I'm not gonna miss my one chance to cross the bridge 'cause you wanna live out some stupid musical fantasy!"
"Its not stupid!" Hector grabs Miguel's arm and tries to pull him away.
"I'm taking you to your family. You too Maria!" Hector says her name angrily that she scrunches in fear.
"Don't talk to her like that! Let go of me!" Miguel shouts.
"You'll thank me later--" Miguel successfully removes his arm from Hector's grasp.
"You don't wanna help me, you only care about yourself. Keep your dumb photo!" Miguel throws Hector's picture causing Hector to chase after it. "Stay away from me!"
Miguel starts to run away. Maria looks toward Hector as he chases his flying picture before turning to follow Miguel.
"Hey, chamaco? Where'd you go? Maria? I'm sorry. Come back." Hector calls for the two once he has a hold on his photo. Maria tries to catch up to Miguel.
"Miguel stop! Hector might really had been trying to help us." Once Maria said that, Miguel turned to her angrily.
"If you wanna go back with that selfish jerk go ahead! Leave me alone!" Miguel yells making Maria tear up.
"I just wanna go home, Miguel. I don't like it here any more and I don't like you either!" Maria cries, tears falling from her face.
Miguel sighs and hugs her, his head reaching just under her chin.
"Lets De la Cruz's blessing and go home then." Miguel says. Maria nods and they start walking away. Maria sniffs but holds onto Miguel's hand tightly. But as they continue to walk Miguel gets angrier and angrier at Hector. Dante then runs up and pulls at miguels jacket sleeve.
"Dante stop! He can't help us.  Stop! You're not a spirit guide, you're just a dumb dog! Now get outta here!" Miguel yells. Dante wimpers and Pepe hisses at Miguel before they run off.
