Chap 19

Hector is immediately at Maria's side. He untied her and pulls off the scarf on her mouth. "Maria, what happened? Did he do anything to you?" He frantically asks. She just shakes her head and engulfs Hector in a big hug.
"Maria, I'm sorry! I should've gotten Imelda's blessing before. This is all my fault." Miguel apologizes.
"We got no time for apologizes chamaco. We need that photo." Hector reminds him. Miguel nods and the three of them run to catch up with the rest of the family, Hector explaining the cenote part to Maria. When they catch up, Imelda is grabbing at the photo in Ernesto's hands. Pepe runs and attacks a security guard that charges at Maria. Maria runs and tackles Ernesto, she grabs the photo from him only to trip and fall on her butt. She shouts to Miguel only for the floor to lift below her.
Everyone heads upstairs behind stage to see Maria being lifted up in front of a ginormous audience. Miguel calls for her to sing.
She looks out at the crown and then below to see a few guards walk up to her. She starts singing "la llorona". Miguel grabs a spare guitar and hands it to Hector who starts playing to her singing. He smiles proudly as she sings loudly and confidently. As she passes him down the stairs, she blushes and smiles at him. As she continues she gets more confident and starts dancing along. Handing the mic to a guard, she runs in Hector's direction before an arm pulls her back. Ernesto starts to sing along and "dances" with Maria. She continues to struggle out of his grip but is soon trapped at the front of the stage. Ernesto grabs the photo out of her hand and makes a dramatic finish. She steps on his foot, takes the photo and runs off and into vectors outstretched arms.
"You were amazing!" Hector complimented.
"Thanks." Maria smiles at him but keeps her arms around him.
"Ahem." Miguel clears his throat and smirks at the two of them. Maria blushes and let's go of Hector. She places the photo in her pocket as Imelda takes the petal in migurls hand.
"Miguel, I give you my blessing. To go home, and out up our photos. And to never-" Imelda pauses.
"Never play music again." Miguel says making Maria frown and bow her head.
"To never forget how much your family loves you." Imelda finishes, her words surprising the whole family.
"Go home." Hector smiles sadly at Maria and Miguel. Miguel happily reaches for the petal only to see Maria get pulled away as a distraction. Ernesto pulls Maria's hood, pulling her further behind the stage.
"Stay back, stay back. No one take a step further." He growls. Dante and Pepe run forward in hopes of rescuing Maria. Ernesto throws Maria making her jacket come off, revealing her boney arms.
"Ernesto, sto-HUUH!" Hector falls to the ground. Miguel rushes to her side and stands in front of her. "She's just a child Ernesto." Hector pleads.
"Their a threat!" Ernesto announces, unknowing that Rosetta and Victoria are broadcasting it to all his fans. "Do you think if I let them go back to the land of the living with your photo? To keep your memory alive?"
"You're a coward!" Miguel shouts. Maria stands to her feet backing up with Miguel.
"I am Ernesto De la Cruz. The greatest musician of all time."
"Hectors the real musician. You're just the guy who murdered him and stole his song!" Maria counters behind Miguel.
"I will do whatever it takes to seize my moment." Ernesto gets close to Miguel and Maria's faces. "Whatever it takes." In a matter of seconds, Ernesto pushes the two kids, making them fall of the building.
"No!" Hector yells, reaching out hopelessly.
