Chap 3

After playing the video, Miguel strums along with De la Cruz as Maria hums along with the singing. They are so engrossed in the music, they lose track of time and find that the sun is going down by the time De la Cruz makes his ending speech.
"It was up to me to reach for that dream, grab it tight and make it come true."
Miguel and Maria echo the last five words and smile at each other before turning to their pets.
"No more hiding guys. We've got to seize our moment." Miguel tells the two animals.
"We're going to play in the plaza, even if it kills us." Maria finishes. Leaving the attic, they climb off the roof and try to sneak out of the Rivera home only to be backed up into the ofrenda room. Panicking, they shove the guitar and Their pets under the ofrenda just as abuelita, Luisa and Enrique enter the room.
"Miguel?" Abuelita starts as Miguel and Maria turn round both shouting nothing.
"Mama, papa I..." Miguel tries to explain only to have Enrique interrupt.
"Miguel, Maria? Your abuelita had the most wonderful idea. We've all decided. It's time you joined us in the workshop." Enrique drapes an apron over Miguel's neck as Luisa hands a folded one to Maria giving her a gentle smile.
"What!?" Miguel shouts, maria staying quiet but a look of disappointment on her face.
"No more shining shoes, you will be making them. Everyday after school." Enrique continues.
"But what if we're not good at making shoes?" Maria asks squeezing the apron tightly.
"Nonsense, you have your family here to guide you." Enrique points to the ofrenda and Maria's eyes land on her parents photos. "You are Rivera's and Rivera's are..."
"Shoe makers, through and through." Miguel finishes as Maria still looks sadly at her parents.
"That's my boy!" Enrique engulfs Miguel into a hug as Luisa gains Maria's attention by patting her cheek. She smiles at Miguel's mama and wipes a small tear from her cheek.
"Berto! Break out the good stuff! I wanna make a toast." The two parents leave and soon abuelita follows, but not before giving Miguel and Maria big hugs and lots of kisses. The two look at each other before back at the ofrenda to find Dante eating something on a plate that's now unrecognizable.
"No, Dante stop!" Miguel exclaims in a sort of whisper shout and tries to pull Dante off, only to have the photo of mama Imelda and coco fall off. The two try to grab it but it soon hits the floor and breaks.
"*gasp* nonono! No, what are we gonna do...?" Miguel starts to ask only to stop short when the photo reveals a folded part. He pulls it out to reveal a guitar in the papas hand. But not just any guitar. Ernesto De la Cruz's guitar. Mama Coco starts asking for her papa again and pointing to the photo. Miguel and Maria then run out to the attic and look at a record case with Ernesto's guitar on it to compare. And sure enough. It's the same!
Miguel laughs and looks to Maria who is still in shock. Snapping out of her daze, the two run out onto the roof and call out for Luisa.
"Miguel! Maria, get down from there!" Luisa exclaims in horror.
"I know who my great great grandfather was!" Miguel shouts holding up the photo and his guitar.  "Mama Coco's father was Ernesto De la Cruz!" He pulls of his apron and throws it away as he shouts out, "I'm gonna be a musician!"
Maria takes the apron that's in her hands and looks at the only family she's ever known, and throws the apron as well, throwing her arms up in excitement. "And I'm gonna sing!"
