Ernesto introduces Miguel to a bunch of his friends. "This is Miguel, my great great grandson and his beautiful friend Maria", he would say or, "he's alive and a musician to boot". Maria especially felt good when Ernesto complimented her singing.
As the three walk through a large room filled with piles of food or guitars or anything realy, Ernesto starts to talk.
"All of this came from my amazing fans in the land of the living. They leave me more offerings than I know what to do with."
Miguel looks down at his feet and stops walking.
"Hey, what's wrong? Is it too much, you look overwhelmed." Ernesto places a hand on Miguel's shoulder.
"No, it's all great." Miguel turns to his great great grandpa.
"But...?"
"It's just, I've been looking up to you my whole life. You're the guy who actually did it. But..." Miguel pauses and looks out the window a ways away from them. "...Did you ever regret it? Choosing music over everything else?" He finishes, looking back at Ernesto.
"It was hard. Saying goodbye to Santa Cecilia. Heading off on my own..."
"Leaving your family?" Maria asks.
"Sí." Ernesto turns to Maria. "But I could not have done it differently. One cannot deny who one is meant to be. And you, my great great grandson, are meant to be a musician. As you are meant to sing Maria." Ernesto walks up to the large window. "You and I? We do not belong to one family. The world is our family. Ooo! The fireworks have begun." Ernesto says happily as the large fireworks shine through the night.
They enter the now empty ball room. Ernesto continues talking with a happy tone.
"Soon, the party will move across town for my "Sunrise Spectacular". *Gasp* Miguel, Maria, you should come to the show. You will be my guests of honor."
"You mean it?" Miguel looks happily before shaking his head. "We can't, we have to get home before sunrise." Miguel pulls up his shirt to show half of his stomach now see through. Maria turns around from the boys and pulls up her shirt, seeing her bone showing just above her chest. She turns to Miguel to get his attention but Ernesto continues talking.
"It has been an honor, I hope you die very soon." Miguel looks scared before laughing. "You know what I mean. Miguel, I give you my bless..."
"We had a deal, chamaco!" A voice rings out and the three heads turn to a shadow near the doorway. Maria immediately recognizes the voice and instinctively took a step forward.
"Who are you? What is the meaning of this?" Ernesto asks pulling Miguel and Maria closer to him protectively. The shadow steps into the light, revealing Frida Kahlo. "Oh, Frida! I thought you couldn't make it."
"Frida" rolls her eyes before quickly changing into Hector.
"You said you'd take back my photo. We had a deal, Miguel." Hector says angrily.
"You know this man?" Ernesto raises an eyebrow, his grip tightening on the two.
"I just met him tonight. He said he knew you." Miguel says as Hector's face calms down.
"Hector?" Ernesto whispers.
"Please Miguel, put my photo up." Hector pleads, looking on the brink of tears. If skeletons did cry.
Ernesto takes the photo before turning to Hector sadly. "My friend. You're being forgotten."
"And who's fault is that!? Those were my songs you took. My songs that made you famous." Hector growls angrily at Ernesto.
"W-what?" Miguel looks at Ernesto confused.
"If I'm being forgotten its because you never told anyone that I wrote them!"
"That's crazy, De la Cruz wrote all his own songs." Maria says. "Didn't you?"
"You wanna tell them? Or should I?" Hector glares at Ernesto.
"Hector, I never meant to take credit. We made a great team, but you died. I only sang your songs because I wanted to keep a part of you alive."
"Oh, how generous." Hector turns away, crossing his arms."
"You really did play together."
