The early morning alarm went off waking both Dan and I. Today was the beginning of Bastille's tour and I was already excited, a strange mood for me to be in at 5 in the morning. With the suitcases waiting at the front door, we scurried around the apartment doing a last minute packing taking things like electricals, snacks and books. We both met at the front door, Dan took ahold of the doorknob but before opening I looked up at him.
"Ready?" He asked.
"Ready as I'll ever be." I smiled and he returned the gesture. With our suitcases trailing behind us it didn't take long until we found the only taxi that was roaming the streets early in the morning, we shouted it over and headed for the airport. I texted Will, who was already at the airport alongside Kyle and Sam, the manager, to say that we were on our way, we decided to meet at the airport because we thought it would be easier. The airport was surprisingly quiet for 5 in the morning. We were instructed by Sam to meet back together in an hour, the plane was at 7 so we had plenty of time to either catch up on sleep or get some coffee to liven us up. Woody was the last to arrive and once he did, he dumped his suitcase by where Sam was sitting patiently and joined us on the hunt for a cafe. The five of us strolled through the airport looking at the different touristy shops, but then I spotted it.
"There! Costa!" I pointed
We hurriedly walked over to the only Costa that was open this early and got our well needed coffee and headed back the way we came. After having our satisfying coffee, we took a seat waiting for our flight to be announced. I rested my head upon Dan's shoulder, he copied by placing his head on top of mine. My eyes were closed and I saw nothing but blackness but that all changed when I saw a white flash for a split second, I opened my eyes immediately and as I expected, Kyle sat infront of me with his phone in his hand smiling. I groaned and cheekily gave the finger to Kyle.
"It's too early in the morning to be taking pictures Kyle." I moaned.
"You have to be cautious of Kyle in the mornings, he will whip his camera out anywhere at anytime." Will advised, Woody agreed by nodding his head.
When the time came we were interrupted by the female voice that echoed around the now busy airport.
"Flight 302 to Melbourne please make your way to gate 3."
After boarding the plane and taking our seats I was conveniently placed to next to Dan who was sitting in the middle with Woody on the other side, I begged to be on the window side, flying was still new to me, this would've been my second time flying, I was excited but the majority of me felt nervous. I took deep breaths relaxing myself when Dan placed his hand on mine.
"We'll be fine." His soothing voice filled my ears and I was now at peace. I looked over at Kyle who was on the opposite side of the aisle who was pretending to be on a roller coaster as the plane started to take off, I scoffed and settled into my seat pulling out my earphones and losing myself to music. This was going to be a long flight. I would occupy myself by either reading my book called Looking For Alaska by John Green or stare out the window literally watching the world go by. When I wasn't reading I was sleeping or listening to music, I swapped between the three until the plane arrived in Australia.
As soon as I stepped off the plane I melted as the bright sun hit me like a ton of bricks. Instantly, the beads of sweat started to roll down my back, thank god I wore a white floaty shirt. I looked back watching the guys step out the plane one by one have the same reaction, I chuckled to myself.
"We'll get used to it."
I heard multiple 'I hope so's being muttered behind me. We were told that our tour bus would be waiting for us out in the car park ready to take us to our first hotel we were can finally have some proper rest. For them, travelling and getting extreme jet lag and getting luxurious tour buses was a usual routine but for me, I've never experienced something so exciting and thrilling in my life, although I wasn't quite showing it then, jet lag was getting the better of me.
We walked out into the car park and the first thing I noticed was this black and yellow double decker bus that stuck out like a sore thumb compared to the small cars parked round about it.
"Hm...I can't seem to see this tour bus of ours." I joked. Kyle decided to join in.
"Nah, neither can I. That must be it over there." He said pointing to an old, washed out, rusted, white van with a flat tire. We all laughed but when the joke was over we rolled out suitcases over the driver who politely helped us take them in. I stood onto the bus which opened up onto a small living room next a small kitchen which included a sink and a fridge. To the right was a staircase which I assumed led you to the bedrooms. After having a full exploration of the bus I returned to the bedrooms where everyone had collapsed onto the their claimed bed, I startled them when I shouted;
"Oh my God! This place is massive, it's great!" I got a reply of moans and people covering their ears.
Okay, maybe I'm a bit too hyper.
"Laura, some of us haven't slept in 24 hours so, yeah, shush." I heard Will say from underneath the pillow not bothering to even look at me. I granted their request since they were all grumpy and the last thing I wanted to do was to be kicked out on the first day.
I only got a couple of minutes sleep, I had plenty of hours sleep on the plane, I guess it wasn't the same for the others. An hour later I was sent to wake the guys up as we arrived at the hotel. I quietly moved up the stairs where I walked down the corridor of beds. I went round one by one very subtly waking the guys, their response was pretty all the same; I'd gently nudge them, I'd say that we've arrived at the hotel, they'd groan and try and hit me away.
"Guys, get off your lazy asses we're here!" I shouted getting very impatient. I watched them all flimsily roll out of bed and grab their stuff then followed me out into the hotel. The rooms were beautiful and very cosy, the balcony faced out towards to clear blue sea, it was a shame we were only spending a day here but I can't get too comfortable, I would need to get use to the fact that I would be living on a mobile home with 5 other guys...don't know how I am going to cope. Feeling very much awake I took in a deep breath and exhaled, it still hadn't clicked for me that I was on tour, with Bastille...in Australia. This was going to great.
That night we all slept like babies, once we were asleep, we were definitely asleep. I awoke nice and early and got out of bed and straight out onto the balcony to see people already heading to the beach. I didn't know why but I felt so much better here than I did back in the UK, maybe I just needed a holiday, I've never been able to pay for my own one.
I heard sheets ruffle behind me followed by a loud yawn. I came back in to see a messy haired Dan sitting in bed.
"Morning bed head. Finally caught up with sleep yet?" I asked chuckling.
"Yep! Want to head to the beach today? We don't need to perform 'till tomorrow. We have the whole day to ourselves."
"Great, okay, we need to start getting ready if we want to be down for breakfast on time."
By the time we were ready we ran down the stairs out into the lobby where you could smell the smokiness of bacon and sausage. We saw that we were the last to arrive as the guys were already tucking in to their breakfasts. I just went along with a simple bowl of cereal, a slice of toast and Nutella and a glass of fresh orange juice while Dan got the full English breakfast.
"Hey guys, want to visit the beach today and get totally burnt?"
"Obviously!" They all shouted their enthusiasm already showing through.
A/n: I know this is really shit but I promise the next couple of chapters are way better, expect some intensity...
