Like the flames that burn without a sound

I shook my head.

I’ve been awake since five am, and on duty since three pm… it’s already half past eleven pm.

“I’m so sorry Lisa, thank you for not leaving Jin alone. Be careful on your way home.”

I grinned sleepily, and waved goodbye to Jin and Seulgi. My shift was over more than an hour ago, but I didn’t want to leave Jin without a partner. It was late and a lot of things could go wrong in places like these.

We were stationed outside near the subway entrance because Chief Namjoon was still worried about the events from last month. He wanted more of us keeping an eye on crowded places.

It was weird, but we didn’t question him much, since he usually knows what he’s doing.

After getting off my stop, I started the short walk home. To be perfectly honest, I could hardly keep my eyes open. Lack of sleep and tiredness was taking its toll.

Life can be so boring, even if the way home is always pretty lively.

Bright stores, music everywhere, lots of people walking around… we might as well be at the heart of the city.

Other than the sky, the only way to tell night from day was the sound. Car engines and horns meant morning, offbeat singing and drunken laughter meant night.

I just blinked and suddenly I was stumbling two steps back. A shorter boy in a black coat bumped me square in the shoulder. I blinked several times.

“Sorry.”

He muttered hurriedly. He had a cap on, but our eyes met, before he speed walked past me.

I'm not sure whether it was because I was tired or something, but that was a pretty hard hit.

I looked behind me to check on him, but he turned the corner and was out of sight.

Where did he even come from? I didn't see him in front of me and why'd he bump into me? There's like a huge space for him to pass without hitting anyone!

I checked my pockets, and my phone and wallet was still there, so he wasn't trying to pickpocket me. Maybe he was just in a hurry?

I frowned in tired frustration.

Whatever, he's just a kid.

I continued walking, though the way his eyes stared intensely at me, didn't pass my thoughts.

He looked at me in a specific way, as if he knew me. I rubbed my eyes.

Lisa you're just tired, hurry up so we can sleep.

As I walked, the corners of my mouth curved upward, as a tipsy, female voice sang Love Scenario by Ikon.

Not only was it cute, it also reminded me of karaoke night with the doctors and Chaeyoung.

I chuckled.

Chaeyoung was terribly off beat. Jisoo was balancing and juggling bottles, acting bonkers. And Jennie was hot...

My palm immediately made contact with my cheek.

What did we say about thinking of her like that?

My face was burning and I was wide awake. Only one thought dominated my mind.

Jennie is a friend. Jennie is a friend. Jennie is a friend. Don't be an idiot, she is your friend!

My pace quickened, as my frustration heightened.

I exhaled as I opened the door to the apartment.

It wasn't this hard to stop myself from catching feelings for someone.
