It's like cutting water with a sword

Well, I'm back on my bed. Jennie's in the shower. Songs are still attacking me...

I'm a little spaced out, a cloak of numbness is separating me from reality, if you will.

So... this is the feeling of guilt.

Hmm. Should I delete my messages? It keeps giving me chest pangs, every time I read them.

Nah. It's a good reminder. I dropped my phone beside me and stared at the ceiling.

I, I know where to lay

Oh. It's Eyes Closed. Another song that just became a hundred percent relatable. Sheesh, Roseanne. Have mercy on me, would you?

And I, I know how to play

I covered my eyes with my arm.

I know this game

My breathing turned a little shaky.

It's all the same

What the hell? I normally tune out English songs even if I can understand them, but this one is so enthralling. So heart-rending.

Roseanne your voice is killing me.

I need a distraction. I looked fine enough for a video call.

"Nyongan, Pasta! You better have slept well, cuz you're up early."

The red haired singer's face appeared on my screen. Her smile was small, which made her cheeks fluff out more. I grinned. At least it looks like Limario took good care of this one.

"Jisoo-unnie! Of course, I have to follow the doctor's orders. Just a moment."

Roseanne fixed the square pillows behind her, so she could sit up. She didn't look like she was in her bed. A studio maybe? Someplace with blue mats and bright fluorescent lighting.

"Where are you? I'm sure you're not in your bedroom, since there's not a single pink object in sight."

I rolled out of bed and hurriedly paused my player, then jumped back into my bed. Chaeyoung pouted and adjusted her earphones. The lower half of her face really had darkened. Hopefully, her bruises disappear in two weeks time.

"I'm at the gym."

"Pardon?"

What is an injured girl doing in the gym?

"Lisa wanted to exercise."

Pasta's eyes flickered up and she made the funniest horrified expression.

"I went with her, because she would've stayed home with me for me."

She put a hand at the side of her face, as if to shield her eyes and looked down. She looked like she was about to cry.

"But their exercise is too scary! Unnie, help me!"

I know I'm a doctor and I'm supposedly learning to keep schadenfreude to a minimum, but... I just have to laugh. Chaeyoung looks so cute and funny!

"Haha. Chaeyoung how can exercising be scary? I'm pretty sure Lisa knows what she's doing."

Pasta frowned at me.

"I know she does, but- look!"

The camera did a 180 and showed me a cool scene.

Two lean people, a man and a woman, were fighting. They were fast, moving around in the mats and hitting each other without restraint. The woman actually jumped and tried to hit the man with her knee! The man dodged though, and kicked at her head.

Wow! They don't even rest between hits. It's just another punch or kick or elbow, after the other!

Even if I didn't quit Taekwondo months after I started, what they're doing would still be impossible. The speed, the power, the techniques... they're not sparring. They're trying to kill each other.

"See? Unnie, they're scary."

Lisa's dead looking eyes were replaced by Chaeyoung's wide and worried ones. I smiled at the screen.

"Yeah, but they look cool and I'm sure they won't really hurt one another."

The man was around as lean as Lisa, not very muscular, but his punches looked strong. And Lisa didn't look like she was holding back, so the man must be just like her.

"Who's the guy in camo, Chaeng? Her gym trainer?"

Chaeyoung smiled as much as she probably could without hurting herself.

"It's Bambam! Lisa's childhood friend and sort of like a little brother to me."

"Oh. Interesting. By the way, does your wrist hurt more than yesterday? If you're having any other complications, I could bring the real professional to you."

Hmm. Childhood friend? Great. I want to meet him.

Pasta raised her wrist in front of the camera.

"It's blue already and it's pretty sensitive. Is that normal?"

It wasn't very clear, but the circumference of her wrist really had turned dark blue. That's good, I guess, but it still looked a bit swollen.

I nodded.

"More or less. Just to be sure, I'd like Jennie to see you. This is her specialty."

Roseanne made a face.

"I'm not allowed to go out for awhile, Jisoo-unnie. My manager and Lisa won't allow it."

The bathroom door opened and Jennie stepped out wearing one of my loose pants and black shirt. She placed her towel around her neck and frowned at me.

"What are you doing?"

I grinned.

"Video calling Chaeyoung! Wanna join?"

I pat the spot beside me. Jendeuk jumped on the bed and propped her elbow on my shoulder to rest her head on her palm.

"Chaengie-"

Jendeuk stopped short in her greeting. Chaeyoung waved shyly at the screen.

"Hey! Jendeuk I'm the one calling!"

She covered my face with her hand.

"What happened to you?"

I moved my head back, to free my face from the clutches of Jendeukie. The girl was holding the phone as if she didn't just steal it from its rightful owner. I sighed.

Fine. I'll just dry your hair then little Mandeuk.

"Didn't Jisoo-unnie tell you? She was the one who checked on me at the hospital yesterday."

Jennie glared up at me. I laughed and kept rubbing the towel on her wet hair.

Wow. Those eyes are really piercing, it's probably best not to look.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

Jenduek's voice turned low.

"'Cuz you were in a good mood. I didn't want to ruin it for you. Haha."

Jendeukie smacked me a couple of times. I couldn't stop laughing for no actual reason. Whoops. The giddiness came out. I won't be of any use for awhile, so we should probably move on.

"Nevermind. Chaeyoung where are you? I'll do a quick check up. And the two of you can tell me what the hell happened."

Jennie gave Roseanne a look and full on glowered at me.

Hmm. Will I die, or will I not die, that is the question.

Eh. Let's just wing it, like the tasty buffalo wings. Told you so. I'm a goner for now.
