Devonte
When I finally looked at my phone, it was blowing up with notifications. I had a couple missed calls from my manager. I ain't wanna call him back yet. Then, theshaderoom had tagged me in a post. That's why my instagram was going crazy.
I braced myself for what I would find. What I saw didn't really surprise me. It was a picture of me in the car, kissing Yazmine. And some other pics from the same night. While it was pretty obvious it was me in those pics, it was not obvious who the girl was.
theshaderoom: Your fav #DevonteTaylor looking boo'd up! Looks like he's back in his hometown, #Indianapolis. Who's this mystery girl 👀? Another one of his flings?
I was more concerned about the fact that they mentioned my location. That must have been why my manager was calling me. Rolling my eyes, I called him back.
"This is a fucking mess, D."
"I just saw the post on the shaderoom."
"The shaderoom? No, no, no this is bigger than the shaderoom. I got People magazine, TMZ, and E, all with those pictures and all pinpointing your location as Indianapolis, Indiana. What part of lay low do you not understand? Jesus!"
This man was the biggest drama king in the world.
"Make it go away, Andy. Ain't that your job?"
"Your job was to keep a low profile but I mean...No, I can't make it go away. The word is out. I've got to start lining up appearances for you, we have to capitalize on this...hmm...rising rapper back in his hometown-"
"Andy. Andy." I had to reel him in.
"Don't you Andy me. I'm hopping on a plane to Indy as we speak. The cat's out of the bag, so it's time to secure the bag."
He hung up. The dude was weird but he was an A-1 manager, so I usually overlooked his weirdness.
Shaking my head, I tossed my phone into the cup holder. I was in my car, about to go to a movie by myself and kill time. Yaz was in class. I wasn't in the mood for a movie no more so I parked the car but ain't get out.
I hated the paparazzi. And I knew it would be impossible to escape now that the media dropped my location. Back in Atlanta Andy suggested a small security team when I did concerts but I hated that too. So I convinced him to get rid of them. Now that the pap knew where I was at, I was slick tempted to dip.
But Yaz was here. She had school and shit. I could always fly her out to where I was out, but it wouldn't be the same. But, I ain't know how she would hold up under the pressure of constant surveillance. Shit gets tiring, especially when a lot of these people wanna see me fail and get it on tape.
I only had one public relationship in the past three years, but it was just some girl my management thought would be good for my image. There were no feelings on my end, I couldn't say the same for her.
My phone started ringing again and I was tempted to ignore it. But when I looked over I saw that it was Yaz. I answered and switched it over to FaceTime.
"What's up wife?"
"Stop," she laughed.
I took in her surroundings. It looked like she was in the student center or some shit. "You skipping class?"
"Nah he let us out early. I wanted to see what you were up to."
I took a second before responding, just looking at her face. Yazmine was so damn bad, and half of the attraction was that she ain't carry herself like she was stuck up or nothing. I knew back when we first met, she had little insecurities and shit, but not no more. But her new confidence ain't become arrogance and that shit was sexy too.
