Year 2010

Dean

"What are your plans for this weekend? Sure there's a lucky number in the pot that hasn't tasted the flavor Winchester yet", Adam said hitting his friend on the shoulder. "I don't know man, school's not good lately. Maybe i should start doing something.  You Know that one math teacher? Mr Crowley? I think he'll fail me", Dean said with a little sarcastic tone while saying maybe i should start doing something.

He's never been good at school. The exact opposite to be completely honest. It all started when his little brother Sam got more and more into the focus of his parents. Dean was about 8 years old, when Sam got diagnosed with blood cancer. At that time, Sam was only 4 years old and he didn't understand the whole situation, which made his parents go through a very tough time. Every time they'd get to the doctors to check on Sam, everything started to become a sign of danger to him. He started crying, the nurses needed to hold him very tight, so that he doesn't move during the treatment. Dean couldn't stand to see someone grip that hard on his little brother, see him suffer like that. Well, what they had left was a traumatized 4 year old, who was even too scared to play with anyone, or to go outside because everything was a signal of danger to him. And of course their parents were very scared and careful of what Sam could do and what he better shouldn't do. So he got isolated by his mother, his too careful mother.

The time went by.

Sam was homeschooled, his brother Dean went to public school, because his family didn't have enough money for him getting homeschooled as well. Football has always been a passion of Dean's. His dad taught him when he was about 6, and after that he trained almost every day to become better and better. Sam didn't have any hobbies outside, he just stayed inside the house all day. Maybe twice a week he went outside in their garden, but only with a mask on his face, to not get any bacteria in his too weak immune system. All of this was their mothers idea. She'd had a failed birth before Sam was born, and she didn't want to lose another loved child of hers. Her overprotective behavior started to annoy their dad. They'd start to fight more, at day - at night, almost all the time. Whether the kids were around or not.

Soon Sam became weaker and weaker. The doctors said that maybe it just was an episode that would be going to be better in a few weeks and was just caused by his chemo therapy, or it was because of massive stress. Their mother felt guilty for what she did to her youngest son, so she started to isolate herself more and more. She wouldn't come out of bed for days, stopped talking and stopped eating regularly.

Until that one day Dean came home from school, it was in July last year - when he found a letter pinned to the fridge.

"I took Sammy to the fair, we'll be back on 7 and get ready for pizza! - dad"

He was sort of happy for Sam that he went outside with dad, since the fair was all he was talking about the last weeks. But on the other hand he wondered, how the hell his dad had got mom to approve to all that. Dean decided to not ruin Sam's day by thinking too much about all of it and went in his room to start on his homework for today. Most of it was math, which he really sucked in.

After one hour of trying he decided to ask his mom for advice. Dean liked to talk to her when their were alone. She'd let out her emotions to Dean, asked him about his day at school, about friends and everything normal moms could ask. So he went to the bedroom to find his mom laying in bed as usual for the past months (or even years. there'd been good and really really bad times. this was one of the bad times).

"Mom, i got this one task i'm really struggling on and Mr. Crowley said it'd be very important for the next test so could you help me?"

No answer.

"Mom?"

Dean went closer to look closely at his mother and shook her arm, freezing on the fact that his mother is cold as ice.

He immediately called 911, still in shock. Dean screamed, tried to wake up his mother, shake her - his sight blurry and foggy because of the hot tears filling up his eyes and running down his cheeks.

The last thing he remembered was that he sat on the front doorsteps, the ambulance carrying away his mother, some guys asking him questions he didn't understand under his ears ringing and his heart beating so fast. They must've called his dad because he saw him running right to the car that they just had carried his long time wife's body inside. Falling on his knees, he started to scream and hammer against the cold street he was sitting on. Telling himself over and over again that this was just his fault.

Sam was running towards Dean, totally exhausted and heavily breathing he fell into his brothers arms since his body wasn't used to moving that much. They both cried very silently, watching their Dad step inside the car the ambulance led him to, driving away. The two brothers left alone in an empty house that had lost all the love and happiness it once had.

This was the last time they've seen their father.
