열 일곱 seventeen: baby
for the umpteenth time that day, jisoo sighed as she lay in bed thinking about what just happened. she just left him hanging there with the one question that she knew could break his heart. she rolled over to her left side, ultimately covering herself with the duvet but that didn't help her get rid of her problems.
shortly after, chaeyoung entered her room. with nothing but a sad smile on her face, she sat beside jisoo on the bed.
"you look so good without makeup." jisoo said.
"i didn't come here to talk about that."
"okay." jisoo looked down.
"i don't want to make you feel guilty. like yes, it's his last chance to ever have a kid, i mean if this doesn't happen then he's ruined. and you know how well he likes kids, have you seen him with jimin. they're so cute and adorable and i really think you should keep this baby." chaeyoung said all in one breath causing her to breathe quite heavily after.
"way to not make me feel guilty." jisoo said sarcastically, leaning back on her pillow.
"i'm sorry, but he'll be with you every step of the way."
"but i don't want to do it. i'm not a mum, i don't know how to be a mum. my mum hasn't even been there for me all my life but suddenly decides to show up now. i can't be a mum." jisoo exclaimed, her eyes glossy with tears.
"baby." chaeyoung ran her fingers through jisoo's hair, massaging her scalp to bring her the least amount of comfort. "you can think about it. no need to rush."
jisoo's phone rang in her pocket. she fumbled for a while before it found its way in her palms. she swiped the screen to answer and raised it to her ear.
"is this kim jisoo?"
"yes, why?"
"your appointment for a baby scan will be tomorrow at 5pm. since you were artificially inseminated we need to bring you in for an early baby scan? could you confirm you'd be there?"
jisoo looked to chaeyoung, searching her eyes before biting her lip and replying with a small 'yes'.
"what was that?" chaeyoung asked.
"early baby scan." jisoo said between tears. she was now crying and chaeyoung was so flustered since it's been so long since she's seen jisoo cry.
jisoo rolled into chaeyoung's embrace, allowing chaeyoung's loving arms to accept her and envelope around her body as she weeped silently.
"i don't know how to be a mum." and when jisoo's voice cracked half way through her sentence, chaeyoung has never felt anything worse. chaeyoung continued to gently stroke her hair as she listened to all of jisoo's worries.
