YAZAN

I was listening to Faisal narrating me tales about his best friend Zukroof and for no matter how long I was listening, the more I wanted him to go on. I came from an all boys school and I was expecting some thrill in this one since it was a co-ed school but to my surprise, it was more strict than my previous one. Talking about Zukroof, I had never met a girl like her. Truth to be told, I was shocked to know whom I had challenged. It seemed like this girl had already done her masters in pranking.

He told me about how Zukroof dropped an unconscious frog into our Deen sir's pant's pocket after stealing it from bio-lab. He told me about how she poured chalk dust on the teacher's chair and how embarrassed the Math's sir was looking after seeing his black pants that had turned all white. And how she punctured Miss Sasha's scooter and pasting a note saying "Sasha is so fat, her scooter's tire couldn't tolerate". He told me how she had the capability to escape any given situation and even if she was sent to the principal, she would come out hands clean.

I laughed a lot hearing them all. Her pranks were all funny and I had to do something that challenged her because I wanted to get back a nice one. She seemed like the only competition to me. Unlike everyone else who were fawning for me.

"Yazan Shaykh, I see you have been a good student in your past school, would like to participate in Students' elections this year?", called out my teacher, Miss Fatima.

Wait. I didn't see it coming.

I hesitated for a moment. I didn't know anything about how this school worked let alone thinking about becoming the head boy.

"Yazan?", she called out again. She might have seen me zoned out for a moment.

I stood up and went to her desk, "Ma'am, I'm new here and I'm afraid I don't know much about the rules and regulations plus I don't know what roles do respective people in Students' elections play", I said, explaining my dilemma.

"Oh, that! You don't need to worry about that my child. You just have to stand in elections, show your juniors why you are worthy of becoming a Headboy and what else you can do for them. It's more like being at students' service", she said with a decent smile.

I thought for a moment. Impressing my juniors would be an easy task for me and with that, there's a possibility that I may actually end up becoming a Headboy & If I became the Headboy, I could pull Zukroof's leg anytime. This idea was amazing.

I replied to her instantly, "I agree with you, Ma'am. you can consider that I'm in", with a smile.

"That's great! Go and check with the principal in her office and give her your name and don't forget to mention about your good grades in the past school", she instructed.

"As you say, Ma'am", I replied and moved towards the door giving a wink to Faisal who was staring at me with a question mark written all over his face.

At the Principal's office

"Ma'am I respect your choice of choosing me but...but I really don't want to stand in the elections for Head girl. I'm not the one worthy of that post"

I heard a familiar voice as I was just about to knock on the door. I withheld my hand and paused for a moment to eavesdrop.

"I don't see why you don't find yourself worthy of being known as a Head girl, Zukroof", said the Principal.

My eyes jolted. Zukroof? Was she talking to Zukroof to be the headgirl? Wow. Just wow.

And here I was, planning to pull her leg after I would become the head boy. Stupid me. I should have expected this.
