After like, 5 minutes of trying to watch tv, not really comprehending anything, I heard a door bang open. Soda came into the room. He looked angry and scared at the same time. Not even realizing that people were in the room, he stormed out of the house and slammed the door shut. Steve jumped up. "What the heck?" And ran out the door after him. Oh god. I turned to TwoBit. He looked pale. He muttered "Not again." And then turned to me. "Should we go after him?" He muttered, and looked shocked. I guess he never thought Soda could have had an outburst like that. "No. Soda'll listen to Steve. I don't know what's wrong though. That's my problem."
Steve's POV
"What the heck?" I mumbled as I ran out the door after Soda. Oh glory. I looked around. He couldn't have gotten far. Soda ain't an idiot though. He knows somebody will come after him. I walked around the house, and he wasn't there. I decided to check the lot. Why not? I walked up, and saw him. He was sitting on a curb, with his head in his hands. His shoulders were shaking. Oh glory. The only other times I've seen him cry was when his parents died and Ponyboy and Johnny got reported for murder. He was so worried that day.... I walked over to him, and he jerked his head up. His eyes were red. "Steve?" He asked in a quiet voice. "What happened?" I demanded. "I'm fine. I'm just being over dramatic." Yeah, I ain't taking that crap. "What happened?" I growled again. He mumbled something. "What?" I was getting annoyed now, though I couldn't blame him. "Let's just go." He mumbled. Wait? He was walking the opposite way of his house, towards the park. I hurried to catch up. "Why ain't you going back to your house?" I really didn't want to know. "It's not like Darry'll care." I'm going to kill him. "What happened." I asked in trepidation.
"So? I want to kill the socs too for hurting Ponyboy, but I don't, because he could get taken away, and that would hurt worse." Darry said. He still looked mad, but Soda figured that he wouldn't die. "Listen, I'm sorry, ok?" Darry had been yelling at him for a little while. He hadn't been just taking it, he had been actually part of the fight now. Though he hadn't actually said anything other than a "I'm sorry, ok?" every now and then. He knew somebody was here, because the tv was on and Ponyboy almost never watched tv. "Sorry ain't going to cut. Sodapop." Soda sighed. He had not been thinking of this happening right after whipping those socs to the next neighborhood. "I get it, ok? I'm sorry." He mumbled, and Darry just got madder for some reason. "If you don't like how I'm running this household, you can just leave, Sodapop Patrick Curtis! You're 18!" Soda banged into a wall. He never thought his brother would just tell him to leave like that. He was angry, scared, and sad. He pushed past Darry, walked into the living room, not even registering the other people, and left.
Steve's mouth was open. "You can always come stay at my place, if you ain't wanting to go back." I offered. Soda shook his head. "I can't leave, or else Darry and Ponyboy'll rip each other apart. And I ain't doin that to Ponyboy. He'd die." He muttered. He got up. "Where do you want to go?" He asked, as he rubbed his eyes. I pretended not to notice. "TwoBit and Ponyboy are really worried. Well, Pony's worries. If TwoBit ain't theres something wrong. He'd probably be boozed up." He could hear the question, and nodded. He heaved a sigh. "Let's go back."
Ponyboys POV
It's been like 10 minutes since Soda left. I'm really hoping he comes home. We tried to watch tv, but TwoBit kept sending worried glances to the door. Suddenly, the door opened. Steve came in, followed by Soda. Oh glory, I was so glad. I could tell TwoBit was too, by the way he was grinning. "Hey Soda! You alright?" He exclaimed, looking happy, but also worried. "I'm fine." Soda mumbled, and Steve looked mad. "No, he sure ain't fine!" Oh glory, Darry didn't hit him, did he? "What happened?" I demanded. I needed answers. "Nothing, I'm fine." He ain't getting away that easy. TwoBit stood up. "What happened?" He no longer looked happy. "Why don't we go outside?" Steve suggested. I jumped up and we all headed to the door. I knew why he wanted to go outside. Darry had just walked in.
