I knew why he wanted to go outside. Darry had just walked in. We stepped outside and I felt a rush of hot air. I sat on the porch step, and TwoBit sat next to me. Steve leaned against the railing, and Soda was doing the same thing in the opposite. "So, why don't you tell them what happened?" He phrased it as a request, but I knew he would not be taking no for an answer. "Darry told me to leave." He said in a hollow voice. No. Oh glory, please no. "What are you going to do?" TwoBit asked. Soda shrugged. "I don't know what I can do." He said in a strangled voice. Soda can't leave . "You can always stay at my house if you-" TwoBit started, but Soda cut him off. "I ain't leaving Ponyboy." He said in finality. I sighed. "Man, we've gotta do something. You can't stay out here all night. It's already like 3:00 in the morning. Stay at my house tonight, and then tomorrow morning we can figure something out." Steve suggested. Soda shrugged. "I can stay here with the kid if it convinces ya." TwoBit offered, and Soda sighed. He thought it over, and then nodded. "All right. Let's go. See y'all in the morning." Steve started to walk off. "Bye Pone. Bye Bit. See y'all later." Then Soda followed after. We both reached for the door at the same time. I stepped inside.Darry was there, pacing. "Night." I muttered before walking into me and Sodas room. As I was closing the door, I could hear TwoBit arguing with Darry. "What the heck were you thinking?" I heard TwoBit mutter as I closed the door. I took off my shirt and pants and hopped into bed. It wasn't long before I was drifting off...
I woke up shivering. Another nightmare. I turned to Soda, and then remembered, he wasn't there. I looked at the clock. 8:21 am. I ain't getting any more sleep, I decided, so I got out of bed and pulled pants on. When I walked into the living room, TwoBit was stretched on the couch, asleep. I took great pleasure in throwing a book at him. He awoke with a start. "Glory! What the- what was that for?" He glared at me. I laughed, and he faltered. "What time did you fall asleep last night?" He normally only gets 4 hours a night. "I don't know, like and hour after you went into your bedroom. Probably like 4:00." He finished. "Why? You came here so you could sleep." I asked, startled. He shrugged. I knew that was all I was getting out of him for now. I walked into the kitchen and started searching the ice box for chocolate cake. I took it out, and TwoBit grabbed a piece. I did too. "Let's go outside. Wait for Soda and Steve-O." He suggested. I nodded. I hoped Soda would get here soon. We stepped outside. I was surprised to see Soda and Steve already there. "Hey y'all." TwoBit greeted, smiling. I grinned, and said the same. "Hi." Soda greeted. Glory, I hope he comes home tonight. "Whatda y'all wanna do? Me and Soda have work in an hour." Steve asked. TwoBit shrugged. "Nothing really. Who don't we just hang around?" He suggested. I shrugged. I really didnt care what we did. "Where's Darry?" Soda asked. "Why do you care?" Steve asked, looking angry. Soda shrugged. "I don't know. I need clothes, and if he's in the living room, I ain't going in there." He said, though I could tell it was a lie. "Hold on." I said and I walked inside. Darry wasn't there. I walked into the kitchen. Not there either. I headed back out front. "He ain't in the living room or kitchen." I reported. "We have work in an hour. I gotta get clothes." He stated as he walked inside. "I have to go get ready for work. Tell Soda to meet me at the DX. Bye y'all." Steve said, and he walked away. "Why don't we just go inside, it's getting mighty hot outside." TwoBit suggested. I had just noticed that it was, really hot. We walked inside, and as soon as I sunk onto the couch, I heard it, and judging by TwoBits face, he did too. Angry screaming.
