His knee was swollen to almost twice its size and it was all bruised. I got down to my knees, and inspected it more closely. I could tell it was most likely fractured, if not broken. "Can you walk?" I asked him, and he rolled his eyes. "If I could walk, I wouldn't be sitting here. I would be at work." He said, and I rolled my eyes. "How are we supposed to get you to your house if you can't walk?" I asked, and he groaned. "I have to go to work." He said, and Ponyboy shook his head. "No. You have to give it time to heal, and pray to god that TwoBit knows the way to the hospital." He said, and I shook my head. "Don't have a car. It's at the shop." I said, and Pony groaned. I helped Soda up, and he winced as he tried to bend it, and failed. "How are we supposed to get him back?" I said, and I threw an arm around him to stop him from collapsing. Ponyboy got up too, and helped Soda also. "I know one thing. If we don't call Steve and tell him we found you soon, he's gonna leave the DX and come look for you." Ponyboy said, and Soda moaned again. Suddenly, it looked like he had an idea. Then he frowned. "Got any bright ideas kid?" I asked him, and he shrugged. "Not really." He said, and I rolled my eyes. "We're up for suggestions." I said. He looked at me, then gave a pointed look at Soda. Then, I knew what he was thinking. Darry. If it wasn't for the fact that Soda was currently trying to avoid him, me or Pony could go get him. It was less than 10 minutes walk from here to his house. But I mean, what other ideas do we have? We can't just sit here all day. "So, I have an idea, but your not going to like it." I started. He look at me, as if he knew what I was thinking. "Ponyboy, stay here with Soda." Ponyboy looked at me, and nodded. We carefully lowered Soda onto the curb again, and I could see him try to suppress a wince. "I'll be back soon." I said, and with that, I sprinted down the street, and towards the Curtis house. When I got there, I was relieved to see that there truck was there. As I walked through the door, I didn't see Darry on the living room, so I called his name hurriedly. "Darry?" I called, and he came into view from the hallway leading to the bedrooms and bathroom. "Yeah?" He asked as he saw me. "Sodas hurt. Some socs got him, and he can't walk." I said, and his eyes turned from ice to fear. "Seriously?" He asked, and I nodded. "I don't have a car at the moment, so we need you to help us get him back here." I said, and he nodded. "Is he okay?" He asked as we went out the door. We hurriedly got in the car. "Other than the fact that his knee is probably broken, I think so. I didn't get much detail." I answered. We hightailed it out of there, and, after I gave him direction, we pulled up in front of where Soda and Pony were sitting. I got out of the car, and walked over to Soda, Darry right behind me. Ponyboy groaned, and walked up to me. "This was your plan?" He mumbled. "What else were we supposed to do?" I asked, and he rolled his eyes. Soda tried to get up, but failed. He winced, groaned, and sat back down. He glared at me, and I shrugged at him. (I have so many ideas for this next part, but I don't know which one to choose XD!! Ughhhhhh.... ok rant over I'll continue the story now.) I could tell Soda was debating something, but what he was debating I had no idea. "How the heck was this gonna help? He's already in pain." Ponyboy mumbled, and I rolled my eyes. "I'd rather we get him to a house or hospital before the socs see us, and realize he's defenseless." Ponyboy considered this. "True." He mumbled back.
Sodas POV (ok now I know how this is gonna go.)
I just watched as TwoBit and Pony has a mumbled conversation, about me no doubt. The pain in my knee was getting worse, and spreading. I clenched my teeth, and tried to ignore the searing pain in my knee. It wasn't doing much good. Then, Darry walked over to me. He knelt down beside me, and looked at my knee. He winced. "Definitely fractured." He said, and stood. He held out his hand to me, and I hesitated, before grabbing it. He helped me up, and I wobbled a bit. Then steadied myself. From the corner of my eye, I saw him studying me. I looked at TwoBit. "A little help?" I asked sarcastically, and he rolled his eyes, and came over to help me. The searing in my knee was getting worse, and I just wanted to get home. Glory, this is not gonna end well. TwoBit helped me to the car, and then looked at Darry. "Welp, looks like you've got it from here. We'll leave you two to...chat." TwoBit said, and with that, the two of them went running down the street.
TwoBits POV
"Welp, looks like you've got it from here. We'll leave you two to... chat." I said, and me and and Ponyboy ran down the street, away from them. When we were out of eye shot, we stopped running. "Yeah, this is not gonna end well." Ponyboy said as we skidded to a stop. I shrugged. "Let's just hope no more damage is done." I said, and the two of us set off to his house. "We have to call Steve, or else he's gone send out a manhunt for him." I said as we reached the house. We walked inside, and I headed for the phone. "Do you know the number for the DX?" I asked him. He shook his head. "It's on a paper around here somewhere." He said, getting up. He walked into the kitchen, and appeared a minute later carrying a ripped piece of paper. "Here it is." He said, and handed it to me. It said, in Sodas writing: DX: 123-456-7890 (not a real phone number.)
I dialed the number, and somebody picked up almost immediately. "Hello, this is the DX." Steve said on the other line. "Hey." I said. "Did you find him?" Steve asked in a panicked voice. "Yeah. But not before socs got to him. His knee is either broken or fractured." I said, and I heard Steve growl from the other line. "Where is he?" Steve asked from the other line. "Hopefully on his way to the hospital." I answered. "With who? I swear to god TwoBit..." Steve growled from the other line. "Hmm, I wonder who? I'm talking to you, and Pony's 14." I wondered sarcastically. "Of all the dumb things." I heard Steve mumble from the other line. "Would you rather me take him in a car with no brakes?" I asked him. "Yes." Steve growled, and hung up. I put the phone down, and Ponyboy looked at me. "I'm guessing he's mad?" He asked from the couch. I shrugged. "Obviously." I said, and sat on the other side of the couch. Ponyboy had a troubled look in his eyes. "What's wrong kid?" I asked him, and he shrugged. "We should have never left em there." He muttered, and he sighed. "What were we supposed to do? Either we watch em fight, or we don't. I'd rather we don't." I said, and he winced. "What should we do now?" He asked me, and I shrugged. "I guess we just wait." I said.
