Her body instantly shot up, eyes wide awake as she looked around her.
The girls were nowhere near sight, neither was the tall birches or the blue irises. Only a small wooden bridge and grass, loads of grass.
Where she really that far away?
Anne did not have the time to think about it as the boat she sat in was slowly leading her to her absolute death.
She had never learned to swim and the last time she'd tried to-she nearly drowned.
Anne did not want to die, no matter how tragically romantic the death would seem to be-she did not want to die.
The cold water had reached her ankles by now, making its way to her calves-every inch higher up making her heart beat faster and faster.
Soon the whole dory would be filled by the shilling water and she would forever be doomed, the tragical death awaiting her.
"God, please don't let me die out here." Anne cried out, her words trembling from her blue lips. "Whatever I've done to distraught you, I am forever in a true remorse for every wrong step I've taken in--"
A plank broke under her feet, an ear scattering scream escaping her lips from the terror.
As she tried adjusting herself, flinching from the injured knee-a pain, so sudden and much unbearable hit her.
As if drowning weren't enough, her foot had to cut right into a sharp wood ship.
The blood came streaming down, blending in with the water surrounding her-painting it in a dark red.
In only a matter of seconds the dory would be under water, Anne could barely move with her hurting knee and bleeding foot and she could not swim.
As Anne looked around herself one last time, trying to savor the last moment on Mother Earth before it would be too late-something caught her teary eyes.
The sinking boat was moving towards the bridge, tall piles stretching out from the surface up to the bridge as a support for the thick wood. She had totally forgotten about it.
This was her chance.
"Anne has certainly been gone an awful long time. "A concerned Diana said to her friends.
By the great pond, the girls were waiting for Anne to arrive, rowing back to land-safe and sound.
But Anne had not arrived and the worry was increasing.
"A very long time..." Ruby stated, shuddering slightly. "What if she...You know...Oh I can't even utter it!"
"You are not saying she drowned Ruby!?" Jane ejaculated. "It's Anne, she wouldn't let such a dangerous thing happen to her...Right?"
"I want to believe your words Jane, truly I do, but I have a really bad feeling about this." Said Diana. "What if she has drowned? It would be wrong to stand here and wait for her to come back when she might never do!"
The others nodded, thinking of a frightened Anne-struggling to breath under the cold water.
"We must run for help." Jane concluded.
Soon the three girls were sprinting away from the pond, adrenaline rushing through their veins as they went to Green Gables.
Only seconds.
Only seconds before her body would be drenched in the cold water.
