Chapter Seventeen
Being honest, I was a little nervous about how the rest of the boys would react when they found out about Harry and I. I was afraid they might think less of me because it hadn’t been all that long since Liam. After all, what kind of girl goes from one boy to another so fast? Especially when one of those boys died.
But none of that happened. In fact, none of them were really surprised when they found out about us. If anything, they just harassed us any chance they got. Niall cheered and joked by saying he was going to throw a party in celebration with lots of pink heart balloons. Zayn just smirked at me every time he saw me.
Last night, I was just hanging out on their couch doing my homework when Zayn walked past me with his devilish smirk. I threw a pillow at him and he laughed so loud that Niall came out of his room to check what he had missed. Then they both proceeded to act like fourth graders and laughed harder.
A few days after Harry told the lads, Louis thought he was funny and sent me a cake with It’s About Damn Time scribbled in red frosting. I must’ve laughed for hours. But today, a little over a week after our kiss, Harry wanted to take me out. Like officially. I was extremely nervous to say the least. I mean, if this went wrong then our friendship would suffer. It was all at risk. Those odds scared me. But at the same time, this could be something great. We would never know what could’ve been if we didn't take this chance. And maybe I did believe in us? I guess that doesn’t make much sense at all.
I slipped the soft gray sweater on and pushed my feet into boots. It was November and it was pretty cold outside. Harry originally wanted our date to be a surprise but he didn’t stand a chance around me. We were going to an ice factory where every year they sculpted ice sculptures and slides. They had an ice skating rink and they sold all sorts of warm goodies. It was honestly like a Winter Wonderland inside.
I was curling the ends of my hair when my aunt knocked on my door. She came in and sat on the end of my bed.
“You know, I tried my very best to contain myself when you told me about this date of yours but I knew this would happen.” She said while folding the blanket I had tossed on my bed.
“What would?”
“You and Harry. It’s honestly adorable.”
I smiled. “It’s cliché is what it is.”
She laughed. “Oh Ellie, everyone knew something would happen. It was unavoidable.”
“So I’ve been hearing.”
She got up and took the curling wand to do the back of my head.
“What time is he coming?” she asked.
“Pretty soon.”
Twenty minutes later, the doorbell rang. I, embarrassingly enough, basically ran to answer it.
“Hey Ellie.”
I was a little surprised to see how happy he looked. He made me feel happy all of the sudden too. But shy, I could see he didn’t really know what to do or how to act around me.
“Hi Harry.” I responded, a bit shy myself.
How many times has he stood in this doorstep and picked me up? Hundreds. Hundreds and all of sudden it was all different.
“Almost ready?”
“Just about, give me a sec.” I went back to my room and grabbed the coat and mittens. Waving my aunt goodbye and discreetly telling her to quit grinning, we got in the car.
